Hi,

Sub: Vauxhall Astra 2006 (TwinPort), ABS light always ON and few more related problems.

I recently bought Vauxhall Astra Life TwinPort (Easy Tronic) 2006 car privately. It was in good condition but just driving some 50-70 miles i faced couple of strange problem. (1) ABS light is always ON when vehicle is running (2) Gears not chaning beyond 2nd, when driving in automatic (3) Can't change the mode to manual at all, as you would know Twin port means i should be in a position to swap b/w auto and manul easily.

When i have taken to Vauxhall Delar, he mentioned that ABS sensor is not working and should be replaced would cost appox £330.00. He is 90% sure that changing ABS senson would fix 2nd and 3rd problems also.

It is very disappointing that after spending £4300 on car, suddenly faced the problems and have to spend £330 more and if chaning ABS sensor doesn't fix gear problem, may be i need to spend more (don't know how much more).

Wondeing if any of you have faced the similar problem with Vauxhall Twinport vehicles. Is the ABS sensor stops working becuase of wear and tear? Any suggestion if i can get it repaired at the chear price? Lastly, i am still using the car localy and driving in 2nd gear not sure if driving always in 2nd would still worsen the car and it problems.

Also, to let you know I have given 3 driving lessons to my spouse on this car and she was almost dring on 1st/2nd gear but didn't go very long distance my be some 10-15 miles. Not sure if this would be the cause of all my problems above?

Very much appreciated, if any one can give me some suggestions/comments.

Thanks,
Sudhir

Right first rule NEVER EVER go to vauxhall they will rob you blind, main dealer = main dealer parts = sky high prices.

Go to an independent garage, half the price (if not more and just as good)

The sensors are a common fault on these, well every vauxhall goin to be honest.

Change the sensor, bet ya you can get it done for roughly half the price at a independent garage.

And see if this clears the gearbox problem (it might be putting the car into limp mode due to the sensor playing up) if not then you will prob need a new tiptronic mechanism (not an enitre gearbox)

Let me know how you get on

You are right vauxhall charges rocket high prices. i could get the same part in ebay for ~£90 and fitting by mobile mechanic for ~£30.

i am trying if i can claim with my warranty, if it doesn't work out then i am planning buy at ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-PARTS-WAREHOUSE or http://autovaux.co.uk/

Did you ever trying buying from any of the above, if so any experinces that you can share?
