Hi to one and all, we are in our middle forties and have decided we would like to try out the English country Side a lot more, there are just the 2 of us and haven't a clue about where to start. We know that we would prefer a trailer tent rather than a caravan or tent.Any idea's on what to look out for when buying a 2nd hand trailer tent and what type of trailer tent we should be looking for, all info would be much appreciated

we bought a trailor tent 2 years ago, we used it once and then sold it!! they are awkward to put up, so if you buy one make sure you are shown how to put it up!! also check the canvas near to where the poles are as with constant wear the waterproofing wears off and they leak and i mean leak big time!!!, i got to admit they are comfy and easy to tow, but be very careful, check over everything and make sure all the electrics are okay. We have got a caravan now and its a hell of a lot easier!! and it was a lot cheaper than the trailor tent!! Good luck!!

We are a family of 4 (children aged 3 and 6), we bought our trailer tent 3 weeks ago and have been out in it every weekend since, it is great fun and kids love it. The model we bought was a Conway Olympia, its a good few years old and it has loads of years left in it. It is totally water tight, this has been proved on more than 2 occasions on a heavy downpour. With the help of my wife, we can get the tent and awning habitable in 30mins. With the luxury of a small kitchen, off the ground beds, electricity and comfy reclinable chairs, it enhances the camping experience tremendously. Trailer tents suit our family requirements, they are easy to tow, easy to hitch and manoevure, conveniently sized to store, a lot more interior space compared to a caravan (subject to the model bought) and you can get one for a good price. As per the previous post, get the owner to show you how to put it up and check round the canvas for wear and tear. Good luck and happy camping.

Hi. Trailer tents come in all shapes & sizes! As has been said, ensure the seller shows you how to erect it. Some (like the one I have for sale on here) can be put up in less that 5 minutes with the additional awning being put up if required whilst others can take as long as a full size frame tent. Have a look for Raclet Quick Stop. Either way, enjoy your camping. Matt

Hi Tats If I am not too late, may I point out that as ther are so many types of trailer tents, look for one where the wheels are the same size as the car, this makes for stable towing, on trailers with small wheels it has the effect of towing a wheel barrow, safety margines are compremised. also be aware that nose weight applies to all types of trailer and not as many seem to think only caravans. May I recomend a Dandy they are extremly robust, I have towed one at 100 miles per hour ( test track) and it never waivered. The choice is wide so hope you find what you are looking for,and enjoy campming, whatever the weather.Montyblue

Hello first timers, I am a 69 year old and have caravaned, motorhomed and tented for a lot of years. 5 years ago I sold my cireon C15 camper great little motor, but missed the outdoor life so much that I have just aquired on "preloved" after very careful consideration to my age and my ability due to my disability we have just bought a "Comanche Brista" trailer tent weighing less tha 270k to tow, you dont now it`s there except when you look in you interior mirror you can see right over the top of it and it is so easy to put up only five minutes plus 15 minutes to put the awning up. You just wind the legs down open the lid and in doing so the tent part just folds out like the old pram hood, a few minor ajustment to the frame for tension and the awning is then zipped onto side then the poles ajusted with a few pegs in bottom great! we plan to go to Spain next year with it for a 4 holiday much easier than towing a heavy caravan or driving motorhomes which I have done over many, many years, so simple I wish I had bought one 20 years ago. anyway Happy camping for the future so check out the "Comanche web site" for their demo very good! they are made in France but can be found for sale in this country. best of luck, regards Tom
