Can anyone tell me what type of grease I should use in my CV joint?

I've got some Castrol Heavy Grease in the shed; will this do the trick?

I've got some vague recollection that its supposed to be the grey stuff, Lithium?

There's a whistling noise when cold from the O/S/F of my Pug 405 Diesel, which I'm confident is a dry CV (have had similar symptoms before)

I don't think I can practicably do anything with the wheel bearing; bar replace it, correct?

None of the usual knocking / clunking / play symptoms yet; of course by this time it'll be too late.

If it is a cv joint problem when you are under hard lock, it will clunk and click loudly and diminish as you straighten the steering. If it is a wheel bearing it will become louder as you go round a corner and be quieter in a straight line. As for the grease go to your local motor factors and ask for a good quality c.v grease and this will do the job.

hi

as PJ says get some proper CV greese, DO NOT try to use any other old greese, it will at best not work, or worse cause a lot of damage!
