watching ''my monkey baby'' on tv and im shocked at some of the things that are legal. its mainly people who cant have kids which i totally understand but there are limits. this one lady put frilly dresses on her white throated capuching, she feeds it any sweets ect that she wants and she even puts make up on the poor thing...

i dont have anything against people who keep monkeys i had a marmoset myself as most of you know and yes he was my baby, and i loved n adored him as though he was my son but he was treated as a marmoset. he didnt wear nappies clothes ect and if i had ever put make up on the little guy id damn right be expecting a knock from animal rescue...

there was one man with the monkey on his shoulder with a fag in his mouth and driving a petrol lawn-mower. some people just dont think of the health and safety of their animals.
kenzo owned me and just as i wouldnt smoke around my baby i wouldnt smoke around him either, i wont even smoke too close to my dogs :(

It's awful that!
It really bothers me that people treat animals like that...
I was watching a program were a woman fed her rottweiler a couple of packets of maltesers a night. Poor thing was over-weight. Didn't help that she wouldn't walk the poor thing either cos he was too strong for her.
I can't understand why people dress animals either..

Ive watched it before to. I was shocked by the "new parents" holding the baby in front of its real parents. The distress on monkey mom was heartbreaking to see. I dont agree with dressing any animals its ridiculous monkeys dogs etc in dresses!! I agree with dogs such as greyhounds etc waering the proper wax coats but hoodies and dresses shoes etc are just so wrong!!

I saw this programme too a while ago. It was awful the way they treated them like human babies. Some people haven't the sense they were born with when it comes to animals.

omg i watched this last night too..did u see the lady who takes them to schools (which initially i thought was a good idea) but she had them riding on bikes and dressing up?!! The monkey obviously wasnt happy coz it was biting her everytime she tried to put the dress on - and they all had collars and chains from their necks? Im sorry, i just found that really distressing myself. Not natural for them at all.
If you watch it, its all about women who have lost their kids due to various reasons and they want a permanent baby-replacement. Very similar to some of the ladies who were on the "fake baby" programme. Very sad situations, but im sure that treating an animals as if its a person/baby forever is not right. As you say Becky, you did a lot of research, kept him in as natural circumstances as you could etc and nothing wrong with that.
That poor little 2wk old one though, very young!

i know i think tat programme wouldda knocked me back a peg or 2 anyways but with me having kenzo it really did knock me for sick coz i can just can not imagine anyone treating him like that without a thick lip shortly behind.
it wasnt the fact they were treating them as humans, i mean yeh you can love them as babies but you shouldnt treat them as babies but i think it was more how you say tabby they were all around her house on chains and the capuchins were climbing all over the marmies cage which must have been terrifying for the marmies, i thought it was a good idea about the school talks too but it wasnt what i thought it was.
i took kenzo to the kids school once and can honestly say it was nothing like that. he came in on my shoulder, i just spoke a little about what it was like living with monkeys, they asked alot of questions, i asked them a question and then a few kids got a little cuddle but it was all done in the best intrest of kenzo. he was very sociable and he wasnt forced into saying hello, they got a stroke if he chose to go say hi to them, i agreed to it because i thought it was a good idea for them to be educated on different animals and its not everyday a monkey goes to school lol. but that deffo wasnt what i thought it was. that was like an animal circus :o(

the 2week old baby was mortified and its poor momma was hysterical. when they were putting that nappy on it was freaking out so much and they just grabbed it by its tail pinned it down n said she has to get used to this :o(

very sad

god that sounds awfull. do you know if it is being repeated? your a very caring person kitty and im sure yours prob had a great life but generally on principle i really dont agree with monkeys being kept as pets, the same as any wild animal.
dogs cats and horses yes as they can be given a fullfilling life and enjoy the company of humans generally ,but wild animals should be left in the wild.
i saw the rotweiller one, it was on britains worst pets. talk about have the wrong breed of dog. why get a rotty in the first place if your not strong enough to walk it?
and an animal cops one with an adult chimp kept in squalid conditions, in a cage littered with coke cans and if i remember rightly made to smoke fags. he was in very poor health due to his terrible lack of proper nutrition.
personally i would like to see it made illegal to own any monkeys, lions and tigers, and large reptiles as there is no way these animals can be given a proper quality of life.
on animal cops they said that there were more lions and tigers in private collections in one state of america than in the wild. if these people love these animals so much they should dedicate thier life to ensuring they still have a natural habitat to exist in instead of putting them in a cage as a living ornament, or degrading them by dressing them up. it makes my blood boil.

i have 2 capuchins, a cotton eared marmoset & a wolley monkey, the wooley thinks he is human & would let you dress him if you wanted ( never have tho lol) but as for dressing up a capuchin thats just mad! & the owner should have got bitten ! they shouldn't be kept alone either they are a social animal & need company for grooming etc, none of my babies go untill they are 9 months old & any reponsable breeder does the same.

I am totally with you on this one Claire. They are wild animals and it makes my blood boil too. What ever gave humans the right to remove wild animals from the wild in the first place just to be playthings for humans. Monkey business is one of my favourite programmes and I have been to monkey world twice now, I really admire Jim (RIP) and Alyson for all the hard work and the dedication they have put into saving these poor animals, from the clutches of the human hand it makes me sick when I see how these fantastic animals are treated by humans.
I've said it before and I will say it again, what makes humans think they are more superior to other species, the planet doesn't belong solely to selfish humans it belongs to the animals too and now many species of animal are becoming extinct in the wild all for the sake of the selfish humans.

I agree with you, theyre wild animals and should be left as such, I cant imagine wanting to cage something that should be roaming about in the wild, I can understand breeding for conservation of a species but not so people can have a surrogate baby, its sickening.
These ones may have been bred in captivity (nice word that!) but the original monkeys must have been taken from the wild.
I saw the rottweiller program too, it was judges Britains worst pet! It should have been Britains stupidest dog owner!! Ive just lost my 13 yr old rotti and theyre beautiful, well bahaved, affectionate, SOFT AS ANYTHING and people like her give the breed a bad name! Grrrrr!!!

I have to say i do agree aswell as these monkey's being kept in captivity to dress up as pet's or for people to treat as a baby are very demanding and need alot of looking after they can get lonely and die,There are many illness they can get being kept like this even a cold can kill them they should be left to live where nature intended.

BT your opinion is your own and thats fine but kenzo was not my ''plaything'' at all. and i dont see how im selfish for choosing to be owned by a different animal than you would choose, but having different views on things doesnt make me a selfish bad person, nor does it make any other monkey mum/dad a bad person.

kitty i respect you as an animal lover, but its not about having a pet preference. its about the fact that the human race do not have the right to destroy the natural habitat, and then excuse themselves of the travesty by taking the remaining monkeys away to be bored sat in someones house. as i say some animals are domesticated, but some are wild and if not living in thier natural enviroment then they should least be allowed a modicum of normalcy in thier new surroundings. ie a gigantic enclosier filled with trees and shrubbery.
to love and care for an animal is not all that is essential. humans need to stop collecting trophies now and start comming together on mass, to rebuild the wild so that it still exists for our children to marvel at.
i find it distressing enough seeing a hamster in a cage. i dread to imagine how i would feel if i saw a monkey dressed up. sat in a living room.
loosing a child is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone, but you cant plug the grief by getting a monkey. how awful for it to feel that energy of, your not the real thing but youl do

I completely agree with you, I hate seeing the parrots and `exotics` in the pet shops, they should be in the sky flying free.
