it really does depend on where you are going and how good the reception is, we take a portable ariel with us and have most times been able to get a good picture, it will also depend on if the area you are going to has switched over to digital, we have a freeview tv, and set top ariel, if you do not get a good reception tho digital tv freezes where as analogue tv you could watch but it would have been a little fuzzy, lightweight aluminium exetending flagpoles are available from good camping shops and would hold a small/lightweight ariel and wouldnt take up much room

I went camping in Brean (near Weston Super Mare) and could not get any reception from my TV so after three attempts buy an ariel that worked, I re-tuned the TV and hey presto the original ariel worked fine. However this was pre-digital.

Why not swap your telly for a wood burning stove. Arguably much more suitable for 'getting away from it all'. I dont mean to sound anti tv but believe me holiday time especially in tents is best left techno free. Just my humble conclusions drawn from my nights spent sat around my Pipsqueak wood stove, sug as a bug in my bell tent with friends. Playing board games, talking, singing, reading, listening to the afternoon play, or book at bedtime on Radio 4, with a candle fired lantern! Who needs telly then?
