Hi Annie,

Am just wondering if you managed to get your fridge fixed.
I have just spent the day ripping our van to pieces to remove the fridge. What a mission!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It works on gas ok but on 220v it's poor and on 12v it is utterly useless.
Would appreciate any info you can send.

Thanks
Paul

Try plugging your'e 12 s plug(grey one) in and it should work on 12v.
Basically the 12v system on the fridge will not keep the fridge cool or will not freeze the fridge, unless it it frozen on gas or electric beforehand. It is just a fan that blows the air around inside.
As goes for it not working on electric it sounds like the 240v element has gone. Before you buy a new one try lying the fridge on its left hand side as ammonia crystals form inside the tubes and could be blocking them...(Never done it my sef yet but its worth a try)...Once you put the fridge back in get someone to shine a torch around the fridge from inside the van, whilst you are looking through the external vents outside. You should not be able to see the light. If you do fill the gaps with suitable insulation......

Hi Annie, Fridges sometimes can be tricky to get out. You do not mention what make or age your caravan is. Some fridges have a luminous switch which would show if the power is reaching the fridge. Some times fridges are plugged into a 230v socket in a bunk or cupboard next door to the fridge or close-by, sometimes the plug can get unplugged or loosened or some even had a switch fitted which can get switched of. This would be worth getting checked out first. If you can be sure power is reaching the fridge then removing an external vent to see if the heat exchanger is getting hot is the next step. If it is not hot it could be the selection switch but most likely is the element. If the fridge is freezing ok on gas, this will indicate the fridge itÂ’s self is functioning correctly. The 12 volt side of the fridge will not work from the caravan battery but only the car battery as you are towing the caravan.
Hope this helps
Andy

Hey Sterlin,

Thanks a mil for your response. I guess my 12v expectations are too high.
anyway, I spent the day removing the fridge from the van, what a mission!!!
Turned the fridge on it's side for a few hours and then tried it again on 220v. The icebox works great but the aluminium plate on the back of the main compartment is room temp. So what I did was remove the icebox door and turned the temp right down and now have a fridge that holds it's temp at a nice 3 degrees. which is the perfect beer temp yeh.
Have re-installed the fridge and it is definately working better.
it's about 19 years old and I don't think it's been re-gassed ever....so , hopefully this way it will do the job.

Thanks for your time.
Paul
