1998 escort clutch

The clutch comes in right at the top of pedal travel and works adequately but if you even touch the pedal it slips. My question is, is there adjustment or is the clutch on its last legs? thanx in advance.ian
There is a plastic ratchet system on the pedal; this takes up the slack as the clutch wears. It is possible this has some how mis-adjusted. Is then any free play at the top of the clutch travel? Maybe try and release the ratchet and let it self adjust itself again. If it's still the same then a new clutch seems the probable cure
I'll give it a go and let you know.ta
