I have a 1997 petrol Ulysse which I have owned for many years, but the immobiliser has just failed to work, preventing me from starting the engine. With the ignition switched off the red light flashes on the keypad as normal, but when I switch the ignition on the red light goes out and the keypad is completely dead. I can crank the engine and the keypad stays silent, but the engine doesn't work. I have checked and cleaned all connections between the fusebox and ecu, but no luck. I have also checked the wires at the back of the keypad and they all appear sound. My local Fiat garage (Desira) has told me to take the car to them and they will diagnose the problem for £55. Very helpful....even though it is only a couple of miles away I will struggle to carry it! I suspect their solution will be to suggest the scrappage scheme against a new car!
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

Problem solved. I removed the keypad and the clamp holding the wires together in the loom. When I peeled back the cloth binding around the loom I discovered two broken wires where the clamp had been. A bit of soldering and all is working again.

I hope this proves useful should anyone else suffer the same problem.
