hi am new to the forum, have a T reg 1.6 finesse,
just had new fron discs and pads fiited for mot,
they glazzed over after couple of weeks, took it back and they sorrted it,now im gettin a knocking from the brakes every time i just touch the pedal, and the steering wheel moves a tiny bit to the left every time i dip the pedal, doesnt do it till brakes have warmed up,they stop fine ,no squeeks or pulling to one side, now the other question i have is ive had the wheels of to have a nosey, and the disc are loose, you can move them slightly on the back end,and if you really pull them you can move the pads too,is this normal on new discs on an escort???or should they be solid ,its like only the caliper is holding them on,and the wheel of course when thts on, its booked in for tommorow, but i dont want the garage trying to fob me off, saying its all ok,
any help gratefully recieved thanks

discs should not move their should be a large philips type screw to hold them in place when the wheels are not on the car

if the answer is no then heads will roll,

hi mines not a 99 its 98, doh, theres loads on ebay with no srew holes

anyway took it in this morning,9am,still sitting there at 12, not touched it,rang at 2pm,he couldnt find this noise i was saying, only the squeeky handbrke cable,he hd been out in it twice, and couldnt hear this noise,
told him im on me way and will take him out in it,by the time i got there, they had found out what was wrong,oh yes i say what is it,
oh ill show you, wishbone bush slighly warn, *!#%!@ i said, its not suspension its brakes, took it away,
went to garage where my g friend lives see what they say,i took them out in it and noise was louder than ever, they said thats brakes not suspenison, had the wheel off, thought it mite be the disc cos the loose on the hub,but of course when the wheel is on it wouldnt be,nother mech had a drive, sussed it straight away, pads are moving slighty in the carriers when they 1st touch the disc, cheap shiity pads slightly to small, for the carriers so there moving inside, and the movement of the disc is rattleing them, thts why it doesnt make the noise if you brake hard only when you tap the pedal lightly,
so either ill put up with it or get proper ford ones,

as said previosly fords stopped using locating screws when you fit the wheel on it secures the disc as for the rattling on the back of the pad there is a 3 pronged metal clip which fits into the piston maybe the wrong size clip or not clasping the inside of the piston, colin
