Hi,

How difficult is it to change a clutch on a 2000 Ford Escort? Engine is a 1.6 Zetec. If I decide against doing it myself, what would it typically cost at the average garage?

Cheers

Ben

if you've never done one before dont bother because if you don't line the clutch up right the first time you struggle putting the gearbox in !!!! i charge £100 labour plus the peice of the clutch which is around £50-70 quid regards adrian or look on my website http://www.atauto.co.uk

Excellent, I'm going to attempt it in a couple of weeks. I've ordered a clutch kit. Does anyone know whether it has a hydraulic release bearing or not? It's a 2000 X plate 1.6 zetec.

Cheers

Hiya

If it has an hydraulic release bearing, there should be a fluid reservoir for the clutch fluid. If not, just normal release bearing.

I done a clutch on my escort, 1.8, zetec, 1997, was a nightmare.
You have hardly any room to withdraw the gearbox/bell housing out.
Remove all the engine mountings.
No clutch alignment tool will work..
I used the handle of a 3/8 drive rachet. to line the disc up.

When you do change the clutch, be like driving a new car.

cheers

goodluck
