my focus 1800 petrol zetec V reg has started to suffer with a a problem which causes the idle speed to drops too low before it settles at a higher idle speeds, it sometimes stalls after taken your foot of the accelerator pedal, the idle speed is steady but it does seem a bit low, i have cleans the idle control valve this has not made a great difference.
The plugs and leads are new plus a replacement air filter, but the problem persist.
Anyone have any ideas of what i need to check , clean or replace?.
Any suggestion would be gratefully received.

steve

HI,

Thanks for reply, its not so noticeable first thing when its cold and getting warmed up , but the engine soon warms up and that when it gives the problem, the idle speed is a bit low as well.

Not an expert by far but people talk of the crank sharft sensor (this controls the timing), also the mass air flow meter ? (this controls the air/fuel mix) Temerature sender this also affects the fueling. Sorry I can only give idea's of what Ive heard on here. But you did good to cover the basics first. Hopefully someone might be able to narro it down a bit. temp senders are not exspensive.

Hi,

Thanks for suggestions, come to thinks of it the temperature gauge is a bit intermittent i.e. sometimes it shows a reading sometimes not , will give that a try by replacement will post the results here.
Any way i could check out the air flow meter, clean it or test it with voltage /resistive meter.
Would the faulty temperature Sensor cause the low idle i wonder?
