I have an 02 fiat punto active and have noticed a strong smell like seawater, the only way i can descibe it, when i accelerate. There are no warning lights showing and the car is driving ok. I have been driving with the city function constantly on and am worried that this may have caused an electrical fault which is the reason for the smell. Has anyon got any ideas what may be causing this, thanks...

hi

as you say a 'seawater' smell I would not suspect an electrical prob that would be a burning smell.

Lift out your front car mats and feel the carpet in the front foot wells
you will probably find them either wet or damp and smelly.

Now you have to trace where it is coming from. If the engine isnt using any water then I would suspect rain water ingress.
If engine is using water then the heater matrix may be leaking.

Al
