2003 mondeo diesel lift pump in tank

The manual say the pump is attached to the outside of the tank however mine appears to be in the fuel tank. Would like to hear from you if you have done thie job. Mondeo 2ltTdci nice to drive but expensive to keep on the road. Sump rusted through at 4 years old Bottom of rear doors rotten. Power steering pump needing replaced making a din. Rear wheel bearings replaced This is the main items only
