Hi,My girlfriends 2000 V plate fiesta zetec has got a broken gearstick spring so it won't centre itself anymore. Is this easy to replace? Thanks Ben

hi, i had this go on my 1999 escort 1.6 zetec, i visited a couple of garages for advice, basically it needs a gearbox rebuild for a 50p spring, so it might be cheaper if you can get a second hand box, i didnt bother doing mine, after a while i got used to it, it didnt effect the mot test, so unless you want to spend £450+ unless you know someone, and while the box is off, you might as well do the clutch too,tommy

Totally agree with tommy on this one. the return spring is inside the gearbox, i would get it checked and comfirmed first,get them to check the gear linkage rod end nut near the gearbox is tight, had a few come loose a bit and cause problems.

Ok cool cheers for that. It's going to need a new clutch fairly soon anyway, so is it possible to get it changed then, or does it literally need to whole gearbox stripped down!?

hello. pretty sure its inside the gearbox, a garage can check this easily for you to comfim this. It will prob require a new gearbox or the old box taken apart and replace parts as necessary

Hi have the same problem on my 1999 fiesta and was told by a ford fitter that the gearbox would have to come out and if i could live with it not to bother for the sake of a few pence for a new spring.

don't no if any of you live near crewe cheshire but i own a garage and would supply and fit a second hand gearbox for about £190 and stick the clutch in for an extra fiver plus the price of the clutch and slave
