I am looking to buy a small cherry picker to do various jobs on my property. Hiring is not really ideal as I will need it as and when. I have looked on ebay and even quite old ones seem to keep their value so I thought the best thing is buy one and then sell it on after the jobs are done. Most jobs will be at a height of between 10 & 15 metres and I would need to get it through a 85cm gate to get to the back of the property. Mains power is available so I thought a trailer mounted type would be ideal. Does anyone have any experience with one and can you offer any advice on type etc. Thank you.

hello as you probably already know you need different types of licences to drive different types of cherry pickers (by law) . I don't know if this law applies to working on your own house on your own cherry picker. The only thing i can suggest you do is to phone up a couple of retailers in your local area and ask there advise. I know you said renting isn't really an option but it might work out cheaper for you in the long run. Sorry i can't be of much help but hope you sort something soon.

Do yourself a favour don't even think about a cherry picker unless you have all the licences and safety certs. If you are working at up to 15M in the air then what you need is a fixed scaffold. 15m is almost the height of a 5 storey building so unless you are a pro you are in danger of killing yourself and causing a fair bit of damage.

There are plenty of small builders going out of business at the moment so try chasing one of the auctions and buy some scaffold and get someone to show you how to erect it. Once the scaffold is up and secured you can play away till your hearts content without doing yourself any harm and prevent your missus having a heart attack. Once you have finished with it you can always sell it on and unlike a cherry picker it wont depreciate that much.
