wall is slightly damp in places but not dripping wet tiles were bulging so took them of then a bulge in plaster= WALL HAD BLOWN so took that of need to fix this as tenants live there. have attached a picture. what do i put on bricks first old wall house is Victorian?????????????? then a waterproof plaster then tile back? advice appreciated please the picture is of a section . the area is along side of bath and less than 1 metre tall
It might be that the cause was a failure of the tiles to protect the wall,(best case scenario) if the wall dries out then you will know that this was the cause, if not then water is either penatrating from the outer wall (check the pointing) or its rising damp (bigger problem). when you have solved the damp problem, apply Bonding (as per the instructions) then re-plaster,re-tile. Hope this helps !
Apply "bonding" to the wall, leaving a good key,I woulden't replaster but if you wish to, use "multi finish" retile with water proof adhesive and grout. dont use fix and grout !! use seperate adhesive and grout, I much prefer the powder type that you can mix to suit the job Let me know how you get on
there is 1 brick missing?? to outside wall of house? i think water has come from outside not inside. As this bath hasnt realy been used for 2 years . only the separate shower further along the room.
where tiles have come away etc
WHEN that dries then mortar? as its quite away in to get it near enough level to put tiles back on at least 1" thanks
All the best
There is a product that i made by an American firm call Zinsser. They make a paint called WATER TITE. It is designed for this purpose and it used alot in pubs in their cellars as they are prone to damp. The only down fall is that it is expensive. Hope this helps.
And when the wall has tiling to it,the only thing that you want between the wall and the tiles is the adhesive !
