Chaps and chappesses - need major help.4
I've got a Ford Focus C-Max and althought it's not the prettiest car in the world it does have a nice set of alloys.

About 3 weeks ago I took it into National Tyres and they said that the car needed 4 new discs, 4 new sets of pads and 2 new tyres (I would at this point like to point out that this car did belong to my other half - a cab driver no less!!!)

Over the last 2 weeks I've noticed a rather disturbing rubbing / cyclic grinding noise coming from the front driver side wheel. This noise comes on whether driving straight or going round corners. The bizarre thing is that it only happens at certain speeds (usually less than 25 miles an hour, occasionally at 30 but never above that). I've had it into garages as my first suspicion was wheel bearings, but they've all said that it's not them it's just the fact that they discs and pads are bust.

Currently the discs are getting mega hot when driving (and I mean hot) and the hotter it gets the worse the noise gets both when driving straight and going round corners to the right.

Any advice you guys could give would be appreciated as I'm absolutely brickin' it driving my car.

hi, stop driving it, youve got no brakes,

but does the noise get worse if you apply the brakes, does it pull to the left or right when you apply the brakes, you may have a seized brake caliper, ive just changed all four disc's and the pad's on my mondeo, it takes a while to do, if you have the right tools
if you or your partner have no idea about doing it yourself, dont take the garages word for it, shop around, get two or three quotes, prices will depend on where you are, but expect £150 - £200 if not more for fixing the brakes, not including the caliper, the tyres, well that's another story, it depends on the size, speed rating, how much you want to spend

Hi guys

Thanks for the responses. Had the car checked and the brakes were well and truly busted!!! Found a chap in Liverpool through a friend that did the whole job for £205. Well happy. Fitted Mintec discs and pads and the car is as quiet as a mouse. He also got me 2 new tyres for £80!!!

Had the wheel bearings checked as a precaution and there's been no damage done.

You were definatel right about shopping around. Thanks for your help boys.
