Hi bighun,

I have also just bought a Talbot Express (Rambler) 2.0 petrol and the tappets were all over the place. I purchased a workshop manual on a CD on e-bay for £1.99 (plus postage) and got all the info I required. Tappets are set cold: inlet 0.10 mm and exhaust 0.25 mm. Engine is a lot smoother now and also quieter!

Good luck!

Not a lot of stripping down needed. Remove the air cleaner and then the tappet cover (two studs). I find it easier to rotate the engine if I take all the spark plugs out, to reduce compression resistance. I achieve engine rotation by putting the car in 2nd gear and moving it backward or forward. If you have the correct big socket, you can also rotate the engine by means of a socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt.

Hope this helps!
