Have you installed any new software or hardware on your PC? If so (or even if you havent), reboot the PC in safe mode by holding down F8 as the PC is starting up and see if Windows works in that mode. Uninstall anything new from here. Then do a System Restore as follows1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. 2. On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. 3. On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to and then click Next. 4. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open programs. 5. Click Next if you are ready to proceed or click Back to change the restore point. 6.The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK If none of these things help, you'll probably have to reinstall windows.

Oh dear, you may have been hit by a virus by the sounds of it. What make of computer have you got? Can you boot it from a CD or USB pen? If you have been hit and the suggestions from the other members do not work out come back before you do anything drastic. There is a free download from McAfee called Stinger which can be used to zap the latest viruses [just google for it if you have a working computer ] I might recommend this to all here, download and save it, you may need it.But do try the safe mod booting first !

One of my hobbies is taking old computers from skips and dumps and trying to fix them . I do not have the money to buy stuff so i picked up on how to fix and mend puters from sites on the internet. I have yet to find a computer that was beyond repair and most were knackered by viruses. i have P4's and dual cores ,all stopped by viruses .If your PC is not fused but wont start then its prolly a virus. These can block your updates ,stop your Cd/DVd player working so that you can't e-install and block your USB . All you have to do to prevent this is to get a free anti-virus program and keep it up to date [or use Linux or a Mac] . I have fixed one PC for a friend 3 different times 'cause he is too idle to do as he is told but told him to take a hike on the 4th. So try this white28.Get a pal to download Stinger from McAfee. Burn to a CD and see if you can boot your system in safe mode then run Stinger. If this does not work then buy a magazine with a ' LIVE ' LINUX DVD on the cover and follow the instructions to load up, then see if you can unload any files that you dont need and try to boot back into windows. A live DVD will not mess up your system but may save it.
