Central Heating Radiators - replacement

When I replace a radiator I normally first fit 2 x 15mm compression isolating valves to the feed and return ( such as http://www.screwfix.com/prods/52623/Plu......-15mm-Pack-of-2 ). This means that I can re-fill the system before fitting/testing the new radiator/valves.
Also for decorating (or replacing a radiator) I can turn off the radiator and isolating valves, undo the top compression fitting, and remove the radiator full of water - no need to drain and no leaking radiator valves (you don't lose/dilute any additives also)!
However my ingenuity and confidence was shattered recently when a (retired) plumber advised against using these isolating valves on the central heating system - but could not give a reason!
I have been using them for some 20 years and have never encountered a problem or issue.
Can any professional plumber/heating engineer or competent DIYer throw any light on this?
I wil continue using them unless I receive a good reason why not to do so.
Thanks
