It seems from reading many of the previous posts that this light coming on is a common fault. This light has just started coming on and switching off periodically in the last couple of days. I have suffered no loss of power or loss of use of the power steering as yet. It seems I will either need to replace the ECU or the entire steering column? However, my problem is that I have a journey to London to make tomorrow from Warwickshire and I would just like to know that it would be safe to drive there and back before attempting to resolve the problem.

have you checked your power steering fluid level?

Hi Kathy
My wifes car has that problem, but if you look in your books that you got with your car it says to stop the car turn off the engine and see if it goes out, you will still be able to drive it if the power steering went, but it would be harder to turn the wheel.
The power steering is electric if it has city steering so there is no fluid level to check.

The later models do not have power steering fluid. Thanks anyway

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem seems to have sorted itself for now. Maybe it's time for a change !
