Hi Charles.
I asum that you are refering to the hichhead, some very old vans did do this.
How old is it if you do not mind me asking, have you tried towing with it?
The head can be replaced easily as it is held in place by two bolts.( I would recommend that a new head and bolts be fitted ) If these bolts are broken, you must ask the question as to how this came about, there may be other underlying factors,ie; damage to the chasie, without seeing it it is hard to know.

Monty.

hi monty.
thanks for the reply. the van is mid 80's. yes we have towed the van. quite happily. we towed it from romsey to portsmouth, which is mostly motorway. and some twisty turny roads either end. i have thought about chaning the head for a 'alko' head. is this within the realms of diy.
thanks charles

Hi Charles

If it tows ok then it should be fine. The Alko head can fitted easily as a straight replacement, when you buy one tell the dealer what type of van you have. You will also need to change the Tow Ball as the head requiers a longer neck.point to bear in mind is that a stabiliser will not compensate for an incorrectly loaded van. remember to disengageit before reversing.
Any other questions please ask,( This is my job)

thanks a lot monty. we were a bit a worried about it. we have looked at the cost of changing to a alko. we have done a lot of reading up about loading vans. and nose weight etc. it can be a bit daunting at times. in a way i am glad we went for a light weight 2 berth lunar. even though it is being towed behind a mondeo. we are aware of making sure the weight is in the right place. thanks for your help. and if i do have any other ?'s i will be in touch
