orange light on dash!

I have a vectra x reg 2.0 dti, i noticed the other day an orange light some on under the clock with 2 !! on i took it to the garage and they said it was to do with the fron brake pads, iv found this to be strange as it only just went through the MOT, so anyway i went and got the pads and my step dad has just fitted them, and to be honest the pads looked almost new and hardly worn. the light is still on, checked brake fluid and topped it up any ideas??? all help would be greatly recieived.

The only light to come on under the clock looks like a cog with a ! inside it. If its this one your on a about, your veccy must be an auto as this light means you have a transmission fault.
