Our young black and white cat has always been very clean in the house up till she was spayed a few months ago. Does anyone have any idea's as to why this has happened . She is a full time house cat and we hoped to be able to let her out doors now. Maybe thats the cure. If she comes in to toilet then i will have to stop having her in. Such a shame as she started so well.

i myself have 2 indoor cats one is 9 (zuki) one is 6 (polly) they were both spayed last year, since then zuki has still shown signs of being in season, IE she calls and started to urinate by our front door(i think to attract a male) so i now have 2 trays for litter, one upstairs in the bathroom and one by the front door, now she goes in the tray not on the floor, i asked the vet why she still sort of came in to season and she said that some cells may have been left behind during the operation and allthough she cannot get pregnant she may still have hormones producing so she still wants to attract a male! hope this helps!

Hi thanks for that. I will try the extra litter trays (never thought of that!) I was not wanting to let her out much yet as she is still a bit frightened by the dog kennels (i have a boarding kennels). The cat has come home with my son who's back from uni. Fun and games .

if the urine is on carpets i would recomend a product called "urine off" from a shop in yorkshire, (u can buy on the internet) the shop is called the cat gallery, it seemed to work, and yes sometimes cats can be well fussy, zuki is anyway, polly doesn't care

Yes she is fussy she did not like the new litter, she prefers the stinky grey stuff so i have had to mix the two .

hi
i can only go by what has happened to me. millie my eldest cat is 9 when i first got her 5 yrs ago she would wee on clean washing and on my pillows on the bed. i found out she didnt like the pine scented litter so i changed it to normal litter
is you cat fussy likes a super clean litter tray? is the litter tray in a busy place? cats like privacy.
could it be cystitis? have you noticed blood in the litter box ? could be cystitis older females who have been spayed can get urinary tract problems. as can males its more serious in males to pass blood in urine.
also if the animal get's distressed like moving stuff around the house or a new arrival another animal can make the cat upset and marking starts. if you have a multicat house hold use feliaway spray and diffuser its expensive but worth it.
could it be fireworks upsetting the cat? you can buy serene um which you crumble to give to animal this can calm them.
if you rule out behavioural i'd take the cat to the vet.

Hi
i think going on what you say she has maybe had too many moves back and forth to my son's house and here. Plus she has been spayed micro-chiped and vac's done. We had an awful time with flea's in the summer (do flea's hybernate in carpets as they seem to just appear at his house and she was the only pet there ).
Anyway we will just see if she settles i let her go out doors a bit today and she has met my little dogs 2 chihuahua's and a min poodle.

hi
flea eggs can live for 18 months to 2 years in little nocks and crannys and skirting boards and right pain. you can treat your cats with frontline combo that tackles fleas and the eggs dont hatch. it is prescription only. you could try natural rememdies for fleas such as tea tree oil mixed with water. this may also be good to spray around the house. bob martin do a line of household sprays bombs etc for fleas but you really get wot you pay for. my experience there not very good. keeping bedding clean and hoovered is a must with fleas. plus also if your cat has fleas it needs to be wormed the eggs cause intestinal worms. basically when the cat licks or bites the area which is itchy it swallows them. so when ever you de flea de worm too. good luck xx

I use catsan and when i have sold a kitten the new buyer has contacted me and said the kitty won't use the litter tray i said what cat litter are you useing and they say wood based or something else i tell them to get the catsan they do and hey presto kitty goes into the litter tray,so a change of cat litter can make them not want to go in it some can't stand the feel of some litter's on their feet, cat's are funny creature's.

Thanks Hayley i will give it a try. Have been letting her outside abit but i dont want her frightened by the dogs down in the kennels when they bark. Wondered about putting her out at night.

You are right the Frontline worked best. The problem arose at the student accomodation i think they had cats before in that house.
