The best oil for these vehicles is ( and always will be ) Castrol GTX,dont use a semi synthetic as these are designed for the more modern multi valve engines and may not do much good for the Talbot engines, regards Tony.

NO! use the old fashioned stuff. If your bothered about engine condition there is an additive you can use which will restore(?) tired engines & quieten them.Cannot recall the name, its American, reletively expensive for bottle size however you only neeed one application but has good press about it. I think it is available on e-bay.Dave G

Hi, Do you mean 'STP' (i used to think it stood for ' Studebaker Tickled Pink' Studebaker, now there's a name from the past.) Yes, it is good stuff, havn't seen it on any Motor factors shelves recently though. Ray

Hi me again! I think the oil additive I referred to is made by a company called Amtech, only available thr'ough' agents, one of which I t'hink is in Devon!.Again it was on e-bay.Highly rated by the motoring column in the Sunday Mirror. I put a product in my Ford Pinto called Slick 50 (American again) It increased fuel economy and quietened the cams which were not noisey I thought, but this stuff made them quieter. To be honest I dont rate STP, For one you have to replace it every time to carry out an oil change, The products I have mentioned is a one off application, h'ence why the price is steep compared to STP etc.Tirrah 4 now Dave G

I have used Slick 50 a few times in the past (the cost makes the mind convinced the bus runs better) and I like to think its doing its job. The manual says somewhere not to put additives in but I do anyway. Just like the idea...it dose what it says on the tin.

Oil additives. hmm. This one rears its head again. Oil companies spend millions developing Engine oils with all sorts of additives to make it last longer due to the ever increasing service intervals. Along comes wonder product that you add and it makes it even better. Call me sceptical but do you not think what you are adding is already in there amongst its make up? Slick 50. Apparently when you add it, you can run your vehicle if you drain or lose all your oil. Now why would you want to do that?

I suppose if your sump got 'holed' on a rock (4x4) it would hopefully save the engine from seizing up ? BUT it would be a brave(stupid) man to test it out by draining the oil and then starting up ! Ray
