I rang the furiture project yesterday, offering them a silent night double bed with a metal frame. The bed is less than 2 years old and has not ben used on a daily basis. It is clean and in very good condition. (I want to turn the spare room into an office) They came along to collect it. The driver didn't like the bed - he doesn't like metal frames, so left it. I didn't need the bed and wanted to give it to charity, but there we are. My cleaning lady came this morning and her husband is collecting the bed tonight. Joy says its a lot better than their bed but they can't afford a new one, her husband's hours have been cut and Christmas i coming along. So I've had my moan. I didn't ralise charities were so picky, what did they want - a brand new bed!

We rang our local hospice shop a while back to offer them a couple of very good things and got virtually the same thing ( our driver will have to come and look at the things to see if they are suitable ( wev'e seen much worse quality outside their shops ) and could have delivered them ourself anyway , so didn't bother in the end and just let the council take them away ( what a waste ) but in our way ); a large tv/video unit etc

I had the same thing with a mattress which they decided not to take, it was clean and in good condition but not good enough for them. My friend also tried to donate a bed and mattress and again they didnt like it enough. She sold it, how ridiculous are the so called rules for charity donations. As long as it is clean and in good condition surely it should be accepted. Similar to some of the stupid rules that the rescue places impose so that good owners arent allowed to rescue because they work a few hours, have children or are on some benefits etc. Crazy world

We could have prob sold our bits , but they were big and heavy , i didn't want anyone to try and lift them upstairs and they were in our way and stuck in the kitchen , so easier to get them taken away ( at least our council run a free service every monday (;

Never heard of freecycle, is that someone in your area or national do you know. Our council charges £15 per item to take stuff and would rather things went to people who need them. Right now I need a cooker as mine has decided to die and apparently its too old to repair. sob
