The car won't read on a diagnostic machine, was told it is a wire fault maybe when the cd was fitted etc, it would need an auto electrician, which could be expensive, has anyone got any idea how to get the air bag light off or auto electrician who has set rate in the Nottingham area. look forward to hearing your views.

it depends on what code reader has been used its normally a specicalised unit for an air bag, air bags are an explosive device and can be dangerous not something to mess with unless compedent
|

Has it got a non factory radio fitted? if so it can affect the communication of modules on the car. Like fasty said it can be down to the diagnostic machine used, some can have communication issues and others go straight in.I think it may be a air bag module fault, sometimes if these go faulty you wont be able to read it, have known these to fail.

It is not VW standard radio/CD, i have had 3 diagnostics done at different places and none of them can read it, the only other option i can think of is take it to VW or auto electician and hope it won't cost to much, what do u suggest?

hello. yes if its not a standard radio it most likely affect communication, so i would suggest the radio is disconnected to recheck if you can get communication and go from there
|

sorry it looks likes vw dealer. i have a 09 plat R32 which when i had a freeview box fitted and it knocked the light on. vw reset free for me. what part of uk are you.

HI. I'm in london if you was in london i wood off helped you and cos i got a vey good relationship with my vw dealer who wood of help you out at a much lower labour cost.

Plus there is a couple off air bar switchs behind the head unit that might of come loss/knocked off in which cass try to find the switch plug back in and then its just a question of vw reseting the light. vw has the best diagnostics equtpment and 9 times out of 10 others will confuse your cars ECU unit

In your case may, i would be careful with some of the advise given. speaking as an ex vw trained technician, even the vw machine wont communicate if there is an issue, most diagnostic machines out there are very good, its just an odd 1 or 2 that can have problems. Im not aware of air bag connectors behind the headunit.Did the light suddently come on? or just afetr the headunit was fitted?
