In our house we have 2 female dogs (mother and daughter) and 2 males (both castrated.) The eldest female is on heat at hte moment and both of my boys are trying to mount her..although shes very grumpy and keeps going for them. So they then try to mount each other/hump thin air! Its obviously driving them all insane with desire and im having to keep the bitch out in the kitchen at the moment..but the boys have decided to start howling when shes out! My neighbours are bad enough as it is, am waiting for hte complaints..
Also my bitch really HAS turned into a bitch, she growls at everything and for the first time ever, actually went for me last night when i opened the door to the room where they sleep! Shes also very hot and panting all the time, drinking alot. Is this normal? This will be her third season..cant remember her getting so aggressive/hormonal before! Shes incredibly possessive of shoes, the kids, the sofa, me, even a sweet wrapper earlier! Shes not usually like this at all though. :o( Is it just the hormones? And anything i can do about the boys howling, fighting between themselves? Its horrible, my house is so chaotic at the moment!!

Hmm i've never heard of a bitch getting like this either, how strange. I'd have thought that it wasn't hormones, as surely she'd get like this with every season? Or maybe not. Are you planning on breeding her again? If not, i'd get her spayed. No more seasons, no more blood to clean up, no more whiney boys... :) lol.

Maisie is the second bitch I have owned she is now spayed but had two seasons first, Amber the other bitch wasn't spayed but none of them ever had symptoms like that in season although there weren't any other pets in the house.

I can remember taking Bruno my Staffie to the shop one day, and there was a man outside with a 10yr old Staffie bitch in season standing. Bruno nearly had my arm out of the socket trying to get to her. He was also 10 at the time. When I eventually managed to drag him home the right way lol (he was trying to drag me the way the bitch had gone) he lay down on the kitchen floor and howled for England. It was his only ever encounter with a bitch in season. I was terrified he would escape to find her luckily he calmed down after a while.

Hope you find out what is causing it Nobby.

It could be hormonal or a phantom, I'd definitly get it checked though incase its an infection. My Chloe used to have a terrible time with her seasons never going through the normal routine of flirting and the whole thing left her very destressed. Eventually when she was about 5 it got so bad she refused to eat and grew very weak. I'd asked the vet[ newly graduated] and she said '' dogs dont suffer with their hormons''. Well she got worse and evevtually needed emergency surgery, turned out she'd got blocked up, she was spayed at the same time. When I returned her to have her stitches out the vet who ran the place saw us & he said guess what '' wasn't sure what had caused it, possilbly her hormons'', AHHHHHHH. We ended up feeding her cat food to start with as the strong smell encouraged her to eat. Only short term of course, she soon got back on her feet. Scared the life out of me though.

Shes not really bleeding much, but is swollen and now standing for her "chosen male!" The oldest is 13yrs old..u'd think he wouldnt have the stamina to have a go - but she goes for him if he tries it. I wondered if it could be a phantom? We bred her on her last season so maybe her symptoms have changed as its not long since she had the pups. Its more the problem with the males fighting between themselves and shes such a tart, flirting with them then biting when shes had enough!! And the howling....argh!! lol
I am considering getting her done now we've had the one litter. This season crept up on us faster than i was expecting! We usually put pants on her but shes even taking them off herself this time. lol
