I have recently bought a Esprit Flair caravan (our first caravan,so a totla novice) and went away, however the battery will not charge when on hook up. I was under the impression that the caravan would have a built in charger so the battery automatically charges when you plug in the hook up cable.
This won't happen.
Does anyone know how i can check if there is a charger built in, or if not what I can do so it with charge when I plug into hook up at a site.
Thanks

Hi, I've never heard of an Esprit flair so have no idea what is inside it, if it has a charger & almost all vans from the 80's on do, it could just be switched off, some chargers have an on off switch built into them, have a look under all of the seats & in the wardrobe for one.
It may be broken, or a fuse could be blown.
The best way to charge the battery is with a proper charger, so you could use a seperate charger simply plugged into a 240v plug that will charge the battery when the caravan is plugged into a 240v hookup.

Hi I agree with Keith, there is normaly a zig control panel somewhere it will contain a switch, asuming of course that a charger is fitted, One thing you must not do is use a car battery charger, it will cook the battery, what is required is a deep cycle charger which is designed for leisure batteries, this has a different rate of charge, one can be had from Halfords fror about £20-£25.
Having said all that a caravan charger can be fitted quite easy if you are competant at doing jobs of this type.
