hey guys, ive got a bit of a problem, its a fairly long story but i will try to keep it short! lol basically i have a mare at the moment which i bought in april. i had had three years without a horse when i bought but have been riding for other people in that time. Ive been riding 10 years and got my first horse when i was 14, however he was a NIGHTMARE!! we had three years of hell before i finally got him sorted and then sold him before i came to uni. He really knocked my confidence in my riding however, so when i decided to get another horse i wanted one that was easy to do, no vices that i could hack out (pref alone) n do some schooling n that with. The mare ive bought is called morgan, and shes lovely in so many ways, she seemed amazing when i went to look at her, however since ive had her ive realised the shes not what i wanted. Shes very forward and due to being in foal before i bought her, has had a year out and needs completely re-schooling! shes also quite nervous when away from toher horses and to start with when i frist got her this was a major problem. she would pace in the stables by herself and i couldnt do anything with her! ive hacked her out once with another horse and she was truly brilliant! went up front, didnt nap, wasnt spooky, and absolute dream. however cause of my confidence issues i jsut dont feel comfortable with her, shes IS quite fizzy and sensitive and feels like she might jsut run off, she has never done this but i think its jsut bothers me too much and i cant relax which makes her worse. Weve moved yards since i first got her and i can honestly say that shes EVENTUALLY settled in really well, and i can now leave her without other horses and shes quite calm, im doing some minor schooling such as long reigning and have been riding her aswel, jsut walkin and trotting. I put her up for sael a little while ago but didnt really have anyone come to look at her who i thought would be capable to handle her, so i turned them down..in this time she has settled in like i said, and so i decided to probably keep her and see what i can do with her, because as difficult as she can be at times, she really is a sweet mare and very affectionate, i lvoe her to bits already! although i think i have to be honest with myself cause i dont think i have the confidence or the ability to manage a horse like that and get her to the standard that i want. i feel she needs someone with more time, patience, confidence to help her reach ehr full potential and i feel im letting her down cause she could be a truly wonderful horse! no one in my family is horsey so i thought i would post this on here and see if anyone could offer me some advice! what should i do?? keep looking for another home, or work with her?? im worried about spoiling her more and making her worse cause my confidence is rubbish when on her back! any advice is welcome...sorry about the absolute essay!!! lol xx

Have you looked at the cost of instructors? Maybe having a few lessons on her might do you some good and they can give you advice on how to ride her.

hey, im in lincoln, the thing is its more my problems than hers, i need somethin thats a confidence giving happy hacker. shes a typical tb and abit mareish! the thing is i have the ability to sort most of her problems,if i jsut suck it up and get on with it, and dont let my confidence get to me, however, at the moment im lacking the motivation to want to do it. I had three years of hell with my last horse having to sort out his problems, and i wasnt really looking for a project horse this time, i jsut wanted one that was already sorted lol plus funds is abit of an issue, i have to apy for livery and all that myself and im a student so i dont have much spare, hence not looking for an instructor or any help with her. I aslo from experience jsut dont thing that she will ever be the horse i want ehr to be. even if i her small issues were sorted, i wouldnt feel safe hacking her alone, which is a big issue for me cause of where i am i dont ahve anyone else to hack with. xx

awww thats a shame me i love the ones with issuse i go to sleep on the happy hackers lol its hard to find your perfect horse i have to say which is why i always bought in wild ones and did them myself then i knew what was what but i love the challenges too and i adore tbs big time your a very long way which is a shame might be an idea to see if you could sell her and look about for a school master as they are called but be honest with the people coming to view tell them what you have told us and that way you will know you will be getting the bst home if i was looking for a hose again she would suit me to a t tbh shes my type of horse totally i used to have totally loony ex racers and love the ones like that but you do have to do whats right for you as well as her i,ve had a mare i hated (was my ex,es ) and if you dont click and dont feel you want to work with them you wont get the motivation to do so been there done that and the last thing you want is to lose all your never or enthusiasum for them totally maybe with the next one ask for a trial period to see if you both do gel and they are what they are sold as that might give you a good insight

the problem i had when tryin to sell her tho is that the market is flooded with good horses goin cheap, and i couldnt get enough money for her, in order to buy another one! i paid 1350 for her and ended up droppin her price to 1000 cause i jsut wasnt gettin any intrest. but i have no spare money saved so the money i get for morgan would go to gettin me a new one. ive been truthful with everyone thats come to see her cause i would hate for somethin to happen and it to be on my conscience!! the guy that sold me my horse when i was younger should of been bloody shot, he knew he was selling him to a young girl and the horse was mental. when i got him homoe he reared up and came over the top of me, i shattered all my right eye socket and fractured four of my ribs, nearly broke my back...and that kind of sett he tone for the next three years! lol so would hate for someone to get injured or to have their confidence knocked like i have jsut cause i lied lol plus i want morgan to go to someone who i think will get the best out of her cause i know she used to do xc n things, and i think she would be ace for someone expericend in loopy tbs lol!! xxx

Hiya,I wudnt even bother trying to sell her at the moment as you wont get anywhere near what you paid for her with the credit crunch, plus its winter now and people dont look as much in the winter coz they dont want the extra work of having a couple of horses! I think you should look into either geting someone to come and give you lessons with her as that would boost your confidence having someone there telling you you were doing well with her and things. or the other thing you could do is advertise for someone to come and help out with her and get them to ride her so you can see what she does and how she rides, and doing that aswel, if you still wernt confident about having her re-advertise her in feb/march ready for the summer and ppl will be more intereste as she will be in work and (hopefully, fingers crossed) going nicely. also if you had someone helping you they might really like her and buy her off you! lol

wel her advertisements are still up jsut on the off chance someone would come along! i had someone who wanted her on loan with a view to buy and i said no, a) cause i thought she was experienced enought to handle her, and b)cause i knew she would send her back! the biggest problem i had with morgan is she doesnt like change, when we moved yards she turned into a nightmare for about 2months...i couldnt do anythin with her, she was jsut a nerbous wreck, which is why i would be wary of puttin her on loan cause if they have her a month or however long, and then end up sending her back, im goin to have to deal with all that again! plus i want to get another horse, but couldnt get another one if ther was the risk that morgan would come back to me cause i definately DEFINATELY couldnt afford 2 lol but...having said all this, im at my wits end worrying about it and so would probably consider anythin! shes 16.1, thers a pic attached to my first post aswel if you didnt see it xxxx

See if someone wants to share her if you dont want to full loan, that way she has to stay where she as you still own her and will be having her a few days a week but the other person can ride her a school her for you and you know shes settled where she is. Just make sure you state on the advert no novices, experience rider wanted and when they come to look see how the handle her and ride to make sure they are suitable

Hey have you tried putting her on http://www.projecthorses.co.uk all the horses on there have 'issues' of some sort and the only people who usually reply are ones who are experianced enough and will understand and be willing to work with your mare....iv had 2 off that site now and would rather buy off there as you know the owner wont feel the need to lie cos the sites for projects. I would be interested in your mare after iv had my baby if youve had no other interest....could you poss send me a little bit more info to [Log in to view email] thanks amy

haha if i could afford lessons i porbs would go for some! lol to be honest, my confidence isnt THAT bad, im a very capable rider, but i get nervous, and because morgans a nervy horse herself, we rub each other up the wrong way! if i had a horse that wasnt so flighty, i dont think my confidence would be an issue, and id soon get it back! its also a matter or finding the enthusiasm to work with her, after my last horse i blamed myself for most of his problems even tho he came to me like that, and it made me doubt myself so much, it was so hard to fight with him everyday and i was an emotional wreck! lol and i dont want to go through all the self doubt and hard work again with morgan, i really jsut want to enjoy riding again, and not worry! i know the right thing to do is sell her, but i really and attacthed and it will break my heart, if i could keep her as a pet for life i wouold but its a waste of a good gorse, and its not helping me tackle my problems with my riding! its also very improtant for me to get the right home for her as i really dont want her to be passed from pillar to post, shes jsut a sensitive horse that if she was i know it would send her mental and as i stated above, id hate for someone or her to get hurt cause they were un-aware of what they were taking on! i dont know..i guess the right home will come along eventually, untill then im jsut goin to keep tryin to do my best with her! lol xxxx
