Has anyone had any problems with this Jack? I bought one in April, last year (2008) and have only used it four times, twice when levelling my caravan on a sloping pitch in summer 2008 and twice last winter to put my van on and off Axle Stands. Today I have just attempted to use it again and it is leaking oil from around the lifting piston and will not pump up at all. It has always been stored, in an upright position, its box, with the handle of the box uppermost, in the boot of my car. This must be a record for unworthiness. Any comments, please. JD.

Hi JD
Why? are you using a jack to level your van.
May I take this oppertuntity to let you know the correct way.
Firstly what ever slope you are on use a leveling ramp to bring the axle up (use wheel chock on the opisite side,) to level check with a spirit level.
Then use the jocky wheel to level fore and aft, check with level.
Next lower the rear legs down to the "floor and one turn more" (They are not jacks)
now return to the jocky wheel and raise up Half a turn.
Now lower the front legs.
your van should now be level.
release the hand brake.
And Now put the kettle on.

Thanks for your reply Monty. My wife is disabled and cannot help me to pitch the van at all and so I find it easier to jack the van up and place the levelling ramp under the wheel complete with integrated wheel chock, using the Spirit Level in the doorway of the van, rather than keep running backwards and forwards to the car to drive it another two inches up the ramp. But this was not the purpose of the posting - I was trying to establish the quality of the Kojack Caravan Jack and wondered if any other caravanners had had problems with theirs.

Hi JD
That puts new light on the problem, I have not come across the Kojack in over 45 years of towing, however I do remember a device some years ago which was a ramp that once you pulled the van onto it it was then wound up by a skrew and rachet, ( the wheel sat in a cradle) I do not know if it is still avaiable now or not, can not even remember what it was called, the name Bulldog seems to ring a bell,
have you tried a Google search.
Anyway good luck.
I would be interested if you find any thing, could you let me know.please.

Monty

Hello Monty
The Kojack is a separate item from the levelling ramp - see http://www.busyoutdoors.com/shop/towing/lev......m/prod_291.html (blimey, what a mouthful!) and the levelling ramp I use is called a Chockmaster, from Towsure. JD.

Hi Jd
I see what you meen, I have looked at the site.(thanks for the link) Alko used to make one simular some time ago. The name kojack through me a bit.
I have had several run ins with caravan makers on this problem, it took years to get a spare wheel as standard, but a jack, that is like asking the Queen for a loan, for the past 10 years I have carried a small 2ton trolly jack cost £8.99 from Machine mart. it will do what I need.
Perhaps the makers can service it and replce the seals if it is leaking.
If there is any thing else I can help with ?

Monty.
