Hi Natalieee, what fish are you thinking of getting? tropical or coldwater?. After fish sitting my brothers tank a few years ago I was hooked and had to get some for me, they're so lovely to watch and quite relaxing. I started off with a small tank and a few coldwater fancy goldfish and have never looked back!. At one point I had 7 tanks on the go, coldwater and tropical, but have now cut it down to 3! At the moment I'm into the ranchu fish and mostly have them in two of my tanks. the third tank has my sons blue crayfish in it (weird blue lobster thing!)

cold water is basically gold fish, fantails and varients of thease, very cheap to buy and set up and keep!! tropical is what u want if u want a sea horse!! or crab!! the set up for tropical is the mosat expensive part, minimum 2ft by 2ft tank with lights and a heater and a pump, or if u have nothing go and get a starter kit from pets at home or similar, get a book it will help, we got a tank off preloved for 20 quid it had a stand and a pump with it but no lights or heaters, and thats another thing with tropicals different types of fish need different temperatures so u would need to find matching tollerant fish for a certain temp but thats why tropicals are so good because there is such a large variety of them u could have 2/3/4 different types of fish all together and they would be fine

try this site, and others there are loads of books out there to!!

Cold water fish are basically goldfish. They're the easiest to keep
Tropical fish are things like tetras, siamese fighters, loaches, algae eaters etc. Depending on the species they're fairly easy.
Marine fish are seahorses and anything that comes out of sea and ocean. These are the hardest and require specialist care, certain water conditions. They are VERY VERY expensive to buy and keep.

I just love them....can watch them for hours. I love my coldwater ones best though, it took me a year to track down a black ranchu and a month ago I bought a red cap ranchu that I think is so cute!

tropical tank you will need tank a good pump, heater and chloranator. all can be bought cheaply any were, start with a small tank first. find a shop that are happy to talk to you, then fill tank with water and the chlor. leave for at the very least 1 week with pump running. if you can get a sponge out of a friends tanks pump it would help build up the bactiria in your tank but make sure they got no ills. my local fish will let you have some of there ph balance water to start you off some will say it wrong thing to do, i find its best way. get your water tested, shop should do it for you some charge.
id get a fue guppies to start with, if water is just right you will have tiny babies in matter of weeks, i fill that gives you the bug

Saw this fish once on one of my many trips to maidenhead aquatics. Don't know what it is but it captivated me and I had to take a picture!
