Look on horse hunter and horse mart they have plenty of horses for under 900 and you can use the search to look for the right sized, right aged and right price horse.
Here's a list of questions to ask sellers that I was sent by a dealer who's in Norfolk:
firstly buying private is different from buying from a trader.like buying a car i guess, if its a private sale, if you are mis sold theres not much you can do.always take someone with you, preferably a experienced rider.always see the horse ridden first, prefereably off the field.the horse should not be tacked up on arrival.how long have they had the horse, if a trader what type of tests have they done to prove it is what they saysee it being loaded, sprayed, hosed, groomed, pick feet out, ridden out in traffic,on tracks and away from home.ask them or take the horse out by itself and company, ride front middle and behind.if the horse does something you dont like, dont be put off if everything else is ok, you have to think can i cope with the thing the horse is doing.generally cobs are lower maintenance then thoroughbreds, so think hard about this.shoeing feed and general up keep like rugging are more complex.a cob is much easier to maintain!if you are coming to me i offer a trial too, to make sure once we have done all of the above ...it is still right for you.if you like the horse and the people are genuine insist on a trial, 7 days is good 14 is of course better.good luck, dont buy for looks, buy the horse for your compatibility and what suits your riding and lifestyle.

My advise would be don't do it at this time of year ); lots of people look to palm problem horses off in the winter months , and as you only have a small budget you could sadly be a good target ( think i'd wait till late spring and try and save a bit more towards the horses purchase price or you could even look around for a good full loan ( some people will even offer a lifetime loan ) although very rare , but def take a very experienced and intuitive person with you when you do go and look ( and take the advice offered ) it's too easy to make a decision with just your heart ); and get conned , all that said though , it's the best thing you will ever do provided you have the time and the money to put it all into practise , Good luck .

You must be really excited!! We have just bought our daughter her first pony after months of looking for the right one! One bit of advice is don't get too excited (as hard as it is lol) It's too easy to let the heart rule the decision rather than your head. It can be very disheartening after viewing lots of horses as you want them all lol I believe that the right horse will find you, ours did. Enjoy the looking but remember to take someone really knowledgable with you that will keep your feet on the ground and stop you impulse buying (my husband had to stop me several times lol) And I am glad that I waited now. Good Luck with your search.

Hi hope not too late to reply... wot size.. any pref of colour... first pony....experienced with horses or novice.....

I wud recommend going to local stables/yard/schools...... don't rush into anything....u must have a vet check before purchase also.... better to buy local i think.... don't be fooled by adverts saying... bomb proof... nothing is ever bomb proof... they are flight animals and when they feel vulnerable will react in their natural instincts.....

theres nothing worse then buyng a horse that is totally unsuitable... as it is not only devastating for you but also the horse....
