Just bought a '95 1.3 LX and need to sort 3 problems. Idle speed too high (but settles after 15 secs or so), rev counter slow to move and reads too high (typically settles around 4000rpm when doing around 2000rpm), and noisy tappets. Any solutions welcomed.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony

Try the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor for your Idle problem, The Tachometer sounds faulty to me with regards to indicated engine speed, & finally, noisy tappets - if the engine is a push rod engine - sounds like mechanical adjustment is required..... let me know

Hi Vince
Thanks for the advice - but what's the MAP and where do I find it (it's a long time since I've fiddled with engines - back in the old SU carburettor days!) Is is adjustable or is it a replacement job? Is there an internet-based exploded diagram anywhere?
Unless the tacho is an easy replacement I'll just live with it.
The engine is the 1995 1.3 Cfi - pushrod, I believe. I bought the car for my son from a friend who has owned it since 1996, had it dealer serviced (only 52k miles) and he says it has always been noisy.
Cheers

on the 1.1 and 1.3 push rod engines ohv hcs they tap no matter what you do so dont waste money on them as the job is a waste of time u can wind them back down it will lasty for about 150 miles then get noisey again the best thing to do is get a k&n filter a big exhaust and a loud stereo u cant hear them then although the engine u have is bullet proof they will out live 90% of other cars the tickover prob u have is yours a 13 injection if so take off the tickover valve spray brake and clutch cleaner in it leave to soak for an hour it works wonders let me know if it works

Hi Vince

I replied to this ages ago but it hasn't appeared but thanks for the advice.

What and where is the MAPS? How can I adjust it?

I think the engine is the CFi - does this help re the tappet adjustments?

Cheers

Tony
