When the engine is warm/hot there is a white color under the oil cap. Does this mean the gasket has gone?

No it doesn't. It could be due to condensation - but if I was a garage I may agree with your diagnosis.....

When the engine is cold and you look under the oil cap in looks the normal black color. But when the engine is hot is goes all white under the oil cap. My car is being looked at on monday. can i do a test to see if the cylinder head gasket has gone?

If You know how to do it - it's easy! If you don't, it may as well be nuclear physics!! What you need to do is have a pressure test carried out on your cooling system. If you know a garage that you can trust, they can carry out the test out in minutes.....Let me know (print this!!)
