Ford Mondeo Steering problems

Ford Mondeo Steering problems

Hi I have a ford mondeo 1.8 LX 2002. It has a funny habit of vearing to either side when driving on poor roads and gets knocked off course easily. Same thing happens sometimes when braking.Has anybody else had this trouble? Also a rumbling/faint low machine gun noise in 1st/2nd gear which is annoying but this and steering problem has never been rectified by a ford service centre even though they have had it back about 5 or 6 times.
