Hi I have a Chunlan Starway 50cc scooter on a 51 plate,
Im looking at ways to de restict it as it has a top speed of a slug with asthma,

sum1 has said remove the 2" thick washer from the cluch ??
will doing this work??

Is there any other way of de-resticting it i can do as well as removing the washer,

yes, remove the clip from the variator

and derestrict teh exhaust, do that by cutting and sealing up the breather pipe, nit sure whether there is a washer inside it too, if there is fetch that out

i would just buy a load of them and fit the ones taht work best, you need to try them out,
if you want a better start off, lighter rollers may help, but may slow you down elsewhere because the bike is out of the power band,

if you derestrcict the exhaust you will alter the power band, so it is just a fine variable, just buy a load, they are only about a fiveer for 6

:D

Hi I have a Chunlan Starway 50cc scooter on a 51 plate,
Im looking at ways to de restict it as it has a top speed of a slug with asthma,

Ive cut open the exhust and and the only thing i could see was the tail pipe was very small so i put a new tail pipe in it 2x bigger and welded it back together and thats made it rev to max a lot quicker,

Ive changed the rollers in the variator which has made it take the drive up quicker and gets me to max speed quicker 28mph.

There was no spacer in the variator but there was a lip of about 2/3mm on the starter gearside of the variator which i removed with a grinder and file,

thats given me around 4mph more - 32mph,

What else can be done to it,

I had problems with it a few weeks ago i could not get the parts for it,
(the coil windings behind the flywheel and CDI unit)
i used the bits from a K-reg Honda Vison that looked the same and she runs as good if not better than it did before,
So it might be resticted the same way as a Honda vison

seems odd tat it has just started to do it, try a small front sprocket, if that doesnt work

there must be something wrong with your engine,
we have had 2 of these bikes in the garage before, they were rapid, and then started to go really slow, we found it need a new set of piston rings, and whilst we were there we replaced the piston to, prehaps you are losing compression ?

HI I DONT THINK IT WOULD BE PISTON RINGS AS MY BORE KIT HASNT EVEN DONE 500 MILES YET.
IT ONLY LOOSES POWER IN 6TH GEAR ALL OF THE OTHER GEARS ARE RAPID AND IT GETS TO 60MPH IN 3RD GEAR ITS JUST WHEN YOU GET IT INTO 6TH THE REVS START DYING AS THOUGH THE BIKE DOESNT HAVE ENBOUGH POWER TO PULL THROUGH THE GEARING

tyson,

lol, well if you have only done that sorta millage there is no way it is piston rings, try a smaller front sprocket, it sounds like the engine hasnt got enough puff to pull the low gear, and if your doin 60 in third, well then it sounds like your gearing is to high,
putting a smaller front sprocket will make it feel more powerful and quicker to the top end, but a slightly lower top speed than what youve got now

YEH I WAS HITTING 83MPH BUT THOUGHT I WOULD TRY OUT LOWER GEARING TO SEE IF I COULD GET 90 LOL. WHAT ELSE COULD I DO TO MY BIKE TO GET MORE 'PUFF' OUT OF IT?

tyson, you would be suprissed witha smaller front sprocket, it will make the bike feel more torquey
83, seems quite high for the top gear to me, doesnt really seem like you can do much else to the engine, i think doing anything else will make it blow !
