I have a 1998 "R" Reg Ford Escort 1.8TD LX.
Some background info:-

It has done 86K, it has aircon (which needs re-gassed!), the engine has Endura-DE written on it, it has alloys, a spoiler, and its a lovely shade of purple!

Firstly, when sitting still and idling, there is an annoying rumble/vibration, not sure where its coming from though, but is very noticeable when sitting inside the car, but outside the car you mainly here the usual diesel noise. Its not a dashboard noise (that comes later below), bottom of the engine maybe, resonating through into the seating area. When I drive away it seems to clear, not sure, maybe turbo?

The dashboard noise is a rattle, its a separate noise, all these damn noises! I am convinced its the speedo or rev counter/cable, the rattle speeds up and slows down depending on how fast i drive.

Also, just out of interest, when driving at night, up an incline, or accelerating away form lights (normallly, not mentally!), you can see a generous amount of smoke in the rear view mirror and the persons car lights behind me cutting through it. Once I am at a stable speed it clears. All filters have been replaced as well as oil, its running on fully synthetic. is this just a normal thing for accelerating diesels?
