Hi my daughter's 1.3 Encore 96 N reg airbag warning lights keeps flashing at standstill and with engine running, about every 10 secs. Any ideas what Ford's will charge to sort it and what the problems might be.

Thank you, rcr.

Hi,
Count the flashes, this is the trouble code being displayed. 1 - 6
Example :trouble code 3 is displayed as three short flashes then a long pause.

Many thanks, after switching on the ignition the light goes out after 5 secs and starts to flash every 5 secs. Gave up counting after 18 flashes??

Have I missed something, cheers.

Whats the engine code for this car - should be on the chassis plate under the bonnet on the slam panel - something like J4C.
Is there any gaps in the flashes ?

DaveH
Also have a look under the seats for the pretensioner wiring - see if its been damaged/disconnected - a favourite with young ladies kicking there shoes under the seats.

Hi had a look under the bonnet and the VIN plate haa J4 stamped to the right of the VIN, other stamps include JBS on the bottom under the second column.

Careful look of the flashes seem to confirm that each single flash is 5 secs apart and I think thios may confirm that the driver's airbag has a fault (nothing new here). I checked the wiring of the pre-tensioners and these looked OK, disconnected driver's side and the flashes went to 4 in quick succession. I think this confirmed that the pre-tensioner was faulty, reconnected and the same single flash returned. LOOKS like an expensive Ford job?? rcr

Hi,
Single flash indicates a fault with the wiring/the air bag itself - or the spiral cable.
More than likely it is the spiral cable itself - this is a device behind the steering wheel that keeps the air bag constantly connected to the vehicle system whilst the steering wheel is turning.

Many thanks looks like the "clockspring" is the problem, also confirmed on another website. Have located local specialist who confirms the same and will fit a new spring next Tuesday at a fraction of the Ford's price. Again thank you for your help.
