Can anybody help me? I have a Astra MK4 1.6 16v 02 plate. The problem is the dashboard lights & back external lights go off (at the same time) every so often. When I turn the light switch off and on again the dashboard & rear external lights work again. Has anybody else had the same problem? Simon.

In regards to your car stalling, losing power when in low revs etc, i had exactly the same problem...vauxhall wanted the usual costs to put it on the diagnostics, and me being a tight fisted person wouldnt pay it!! instead i perservered and thanks to this site i got in touch with another member who described the problems i was having...as he had exactly the same problem... It is the EGR (exhuast gas re-circulation) valve, again Vauxhall charge approx £200 to supply and fit this..and again with me being tight i shopped about. There is an E-Store on Ebay where i got the valve (genuine part, brand new) for about £35 and fitted it myself. Vauxhall told me the fault code would need resetting to eliminate the problem completely, but once again i chose to ignore there advice and 12 months on its still running perfectly! Thanks Chesh, but mine's the ECU (not EGR, unless they're the same) or the O2 sensor?

I have a 2001 Astra Van 1700 diesel that won't start.
When i turn the key all the dash board lights come on.
I turn it to start and nothing, the lights don't flicker. just stays all lit up.
I have checked the fuses no problems.
It will start if i push it and bump start it.
Please help!!!!

was thinking it could be the ignition barrel. as i can`t here the starter trying to turn and the lights dont dim.

how am i going get the ignition barell out? i have a 2001 astra van! i have follwed the haynes manual and got it out once! but the clip had broken. i manged to get it back it but cant get it out now. any ideas on how to do it?

Has any one ever had the problem with a Vauxhall Astra 51 plate 18.00i where the car lacks power and stutters when you try and put the foot down.
I have tried to use the diagnostic tool OBDII Autoscanner although it did say there was 1 fault but when I asked for the code it said N/A 01/01.
Any replies would be appreciated.

please HELP i have a astra 20l dti which cut out while driving i hade it dynonostic tested wich came up with a faulty crankshaft sencor so i replaced it and still wont start does eny1 think that the timeing my be out or could be fuel pump

Hi, the fuel pump is certainly a problem on this engine and the fuel injection specialist said they seem to self destruct at 6 or 7 years old. Is that about the age of your car ? He said mileage doesn't mean a thing, just age. Check for either over fueling or under fueling as either can happen.

thanks for the relpy it's 02 plate so yea around 6 years old now eny ideas how i would check the fuel pump is working/not working first before concidering replacement thanks

Crack a pipe at the injectors and crank engine and watch the amount of fuel. It's a rough and quick guid but the injection should be like a quick spit an off and on etc.Sometimes the pumps will overfuel and it seems to spew fuel out and the opposite is obvious - no fuel. OK ?

look on the back of your brake pedal,there should be a switch some times these things go and have to be replaced,hope i could help.

I am having major problems with my 2001 y reg astra. Acouple of months ago the alarm was going off,had to leave the car unlocked to stop it going off. So took it to vauxhall and it turned out to be the power sender (I think that is what it is called I had already had this replaced just after I brought the car ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO!!!) so again a new one was fitted now a couple of months down the line same thing car alarm going off then lots of clicking sounds going around the car the sensor's I would imagine,the thing is the alarm is even going off when the car is unlocked, I am lost as to what I can do till monday when it is booked to go in again I really don't want to pee off my new neighbours any Idea's?

disconect the battery and lock the doors with the key till monday!or find the fuse for the alarm and pull it out.

Any idea of what fuse number it is likely to be there are about 3 or 4 that relate to the alarm and mobiliser and other things. I can't disconnect the battery as the power sender has its own battery back up so it still goes off

Hi, Ive had a 1.7turbo diesel Astra from new. Summer it does around 50, winter about 45 knocking around. For a few years now Ive had a problem with the economy and sluggishness. If I open the drain under the fuel filter and then the bleed on top and allow a little fuel out, there is nowt else, it will be fine for about a fortnight but then will need doing again.I cannot find any reason for this. does anyone know if this is normal?Try it with yours. Paul.

I have this same problem, i've just replaced the pump ang egr valve at a great cost and when reached temperature same old problem flashing light and knocking.
