I drive an Astra sxi 16v 1.6 2001, it has just over 36,000 on the clock and today the exhaust emissions light came on on the dash, just wondering if this is serious and if anyone knows what it is most likely to be?
Cheers.

car broke down and refused to start again, turned out to be a dry soldered joint in the ecu unit.
50 pound for diagnostic
60 pound for fix
all well for 3 months now car keeps cutting out while driving only this time car starts after a couple of mins.
Today power steering stopped working and alternator light on.
Only problem is alternator is only a year or so old
Please advise loosing the will to live!

Bad luck. You did well to find someone to fix ECU though. Both alternator & power steering?? Do you think you might find the drivebelt under the car somewhere? Stopping & not restarting is common, try coil and/or coil module. Get from beakers, they don't all have the fault but with your luck, who knows? Will to live - Remember, worse things happen at sea. Hello, I was just wondering ifyou would be able to help with a fault that i have with my Vauxhall Astra 2.0 Dti 51 plate. Couple of months ago i hit a deer, ever since then the Engine Managment light comes on (not all of the time) when i am slowing down and have put the clutch in to change gear when i am coming to a junction or just slowing down, when the light does come on it goes into limp mode then the light goes out after 20sec and the car shoots off and goes fine. I have had the EGR valve changed because thats what the garage said the fault was but it made no difference. Do you have any idea what this might be?

Thanks would be greatful to anyone advice as this car is costing me a fortune.

Can anyone help.I've got an Astra 1.4 which is just over a year old.Two weeks ago whilst driving the airbag and belt retensioners warning light appeared on the dashboard. Then I tried to lock the car using the central locking button but that just made the hazard lights come on.Then the internal light came on and would'nt go off.
I took it to the dealer who said I needed a part. They took the bulb out of the light so it wouldn't drain the battery. The car is due to go in on Thursday to be fixed, but today I went to start the car and it seems like the battery is flat.Any ideas?

Sounds like a very definate cross wire/short circuit. Take it to an auto-electrician, as there's a lot of wiring behind the dashboard.
I'd say water has gone into the driver's side foot well, and polluted the central locking ECU, or the little switch that senses when the door has opened is faulty. The ECU is behind the plastic panel on the right of the pedals. Give it a few thumps, it might free something up.
The switch is where the door hinges are.

I have an X reg astra dti, after driving for 15 miles or so the emmisions light comes on, but if I continue driving for 70 miles the car goes into limp mode. I have read that changing the egr valve will stop the emmisions light coming on but is this also the reason for going into limp mode or could this be something more serious, any advice please!

Hello,

i have a Astra dti 51 plate. When my engine managment light comes on my car goes into limp mode then goes out and full power comes back. I was told that the egr valve needed changing so i had it changed £400 later and it still does it, i was then told it was the plugs had those changed still does it this has been happening since october last year. I decided last week that i was just going to take it to the vauxhall garage and spend another £50 for them to see if they know what it is. They have now told me that it is the vacuum pump which also makes the egr valve work, so if the vacuum pump is weak the egr valve will not work properly. Vacuum pump is £145+vat new or i have found a used one for £45. Maybe try this first. Let me know how it goes would be interested to see if you have the same fault.

hi i have a Astra 2.0ltr TDI 2000 and it has real problems starting, i have to sit in the car pumping the accelerator constantly for about 5 mins while the car try's to start. while i am doing this there is some grey smoke that comes out the exhaust then when it does finaly start quite a bit of black smoke comes out. Its fine if i drive the car leave it for 30 mins then come back to it, it starts first time but anything more then about 2 hours it has problems. I have searched around this forum and a few others and cant find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heater plugs. You need at least 2 working to guarantee a cold start. Easy to check each one with a resistance meter. Disconnect the feed wire first. They look like a dead short when OK ! They always fail open-circuit so if you get no reading, the plug is U/S. Whatever you do, don't break one in the head or you are up the creek, no paddle. Do it when engine is warm, use plenty of penetrating oil & hey, be very careful. Achilles.

I know what you mean. Yes, glow/heater plugs. They get pretty hot & seize in the head. Penetrating oil and heat enables you to get them out without ruining your whole day. They are surprisingly cheap so you can change them all, easy, job done. I mentioned the feed wire because when you try to check with a meter, if you have them all wired together, it is impossible to tell which have failed. Achilles.

sounds like the ignition module.
Pick a secondhand one up from your local breaker for pennies and they will probably fit for you.

Does anyone know how to configure Simens NCDR1500 CD player with Philips CD changer in Vauxhall Astra 2001?

For some reason, the CD player is not talking to CD changer in glove box which is again a Vauxhall standard Philips CD changer.. (not recognising it). Since its connected to wiring provided by Vauxhall in glove box, CD changer powers up and makes noises going through CDs/ lifting them etc..

But would not do anything when CD changer button (CDC) is pressed on NCDR1500..

I've tried to read error codes/ comms issues through Vauxhall tech2 (on OBD) but did not find anything! I've also tried powering up with CDC button pressed and turning ignition ON and a few other tricks thinking it might ask me for changer code (that I have) but nothing.

I've tried disconnecting the battery overnight thinking it might ask me for a code in the morning but still nothing. The neadunit (NCDR1500) is not coded.

Cheers..
