Hi,

the battery on my astra drained recently due to the silly mistake of me leaving the 7V lights on almost all day. Having managed to start it back up again the orange/yellow exhaust emissions light seem to come on (looks like an engine). Is this due to some data being reset in the ecu because of power loss. And will it fix itself eventually?

Cheers,
Dav

Hello Ajit. I don't know how much this will help you but the dealer who sold the vehicle is supposed to keep this number. There may be a sticker on rear window/tax disk holder/number plate with the dealer's contact details. Or they may have registered the vehicle themselves in which case the registration document will show details. Or thr DVLA might be able to help but generally they are too busy selling your personal details to bother with our problems.
Are you sure that the number isn't written in the owners reference book or radio manual (that's the larger of the two)? Most owners would note the number. Failing that, it is probably cheaper to buy a replacement than to pay a Blaupunkt dealer. Try e-Bay. You don't have to have the integrated display, any radio will do. Achilles.

for some of you with the problem of over reving and the orange engine management light coming on and the car getting sluggish. A friend of mine was an Opel/Vauxhall mechanic and does all most of the work on my car. Had this problem a few times very quick fix and really only happened after oil changes. the carberett has dirt in it and you can get a spray to clean it from any auto factor remove the air intake at the carberett with the car running rev the car to over 5 on the rev counter and spray for around a minute keeping the rev's high at all times. really needs two people to do this

Hi, can someone help me please! I have a 2002 1.6 16v sxi astra. The exhaust emmisson light came on and the car started juddering. One mechanic told me it was the coil pack so i replaced it with a brand new one. This lasted for about a month and problem started again. My mate checked the electrics and it showed one of the coil pack cylinders was showing a fault. He reset it and after it happened with another two of the cylinders he told me the coil pack was likely to be faulty. Sent it back and got it replaced and now, 5 days later the problem has come back! Any ideas?

Nat, sounds like a wheel bearing. A common fault. Jack it up & check for play before it collapses or seizes. Less likely is the big nut in the centre of hub not being tight enough but usually that would be caused by bearing wear too. If all else seems OK, could it be a bent drive shaft? Caused by driving on rough ground? Achilles

Hi all
I was wondering if any of you out there could help me i've got a 96 P reg astra 1.6 ls and have recently had alot of problems with the engine managment light coming on every time i get into 3rd gear, have done the paper clip test and got a read out for the cts, have replaced and tried it again but still get the warning light at the same point done another check and got up several faults ecu defective, tps high voltage, fuel pump relay high voltage. Could these all be linked by one thing or will they al need replacing, engine is the x16sz

Many Thanks

Nat, if its not the wheel bearing, then you will probably need the front wheels balancing.
