Hi,

I managed to run the battery of my '99 Astra right down and the radio (Blaupunkt Car300) is now in safe mode. I can't find my car pass and I contacted the local vauxhall dealership and they said it would cost £20 + VAT :( !! I'm sure I read something on here about being able to calculate the code. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks
Steve P

Pull out your stereo and write down the stereo number (the long one on the label) then put up a new post headed stereo code needed.

Only one guy on here can help and thats red rooster and hopefully with the stereo number he can give you a code

Hi Clare,

Did you ever get your problem sorted as I have exactly the same car and same problem

Cheers

Mandy

I have now been told that it is my lambda sensor. Does this sound likely folks. Getting really fed up of it now. Just want it fixed as cheaply as possible and to stop throwing good money after bad at it. At my wits end

hi, had this problem... turned out to be the alternator which aslo has the power steering pump attached to it which causes the the steering to go really heavy. cost me 345 quid to be fixed at local dealers... only had it a week!

Hi Mandy. The problem just seemed to go away by itself. The exhaust emissons light went off the day be4 the mot and thankfully didnt show up when it was being done. It stayed that way 4 a couple of months and then all of a sudden it happened again 2 days ago. I had noticed it only happens when the weather is very wet and windy so am going to have someone look at the cat convertor to check 4 a blockage. will let you know how it goes. Its very fustrating!
Clare.

meghandee, what engine do you have, im pretty sure you will find its the its the idle control valve or air mass senosr

Cant see it being the fuel pump unless its a diesel as they are prone to going but wont be £1000.

Take it to a few independant garages to see what they all say and ask for a quote not an estimate as an estimate can vary a quote is the final figure

Right i hope someone can help. I have a 95 astra 1.4 which recently (within the last week) has had issues with low revs in first and second. Which has now snowballed in me being unable to keep it running at all (no revs at all)....... I was convinced on Friday it was a fuel problem now i am completely baffled. The car will now start but theres no throttle.
I have been looking through the forums and it seems it could be anything.
Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Hello UK. Sorry to hear you have this trouble. Assuming that nothing is actually broken ie no burned ex valves, cambelt hasn't slipped etc, then it has to be either poor sparks or poor fuel delivery. You can check that for good sparks using a spare plug. Open the gap to about 2mm & the system should easily produce a spark. This is not an absolutely 100% test but it gives a good indication. Try all the plug leads to be safe but try not to mix-up the firing order! If fuel is the problem, dribbling or squirting fuel (carefully!!) into the throttle body air intake while someone tries to start the engine should cure this one. From what you say, poor fuel delivery does sound likely & my learned friends are correct. If you do suspect a blocked catalyst or exhaust (rare), then disconnect it & the engine should rev freely. Hi,

I'm having trouble with my Astra 2002 1.6 8Valve. Its occasionally loosing power coming into junctions. It runs fine on the open road but if I slow down quickly and the revs are low its just cuts out and wont start. I can start it only by having it in first and giving it petrol and kind of jump start it. I also notice that when it does this the brakes firm up and the electronics light comes on in the dash. Once I get it going again I have to keep it running alone at high revs if I come to another junction it will cut out again but if I can keep it going it goes out of it and runs fine again.

Has anyone any suggestions or has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the clarification Dav. Please be aware that we sympathise with your plight & that people give up their own time for these answers. If you can give an accurate, brief description of the fault I am sure that someone will be very willing to help. As an example of what we don't need, in your earlier tale of woe, you mention that the steering becomes heavy when the engine stops. This is not a fault. Achilles

Achilles - I never said that the steering gets heavy - what I said was, that the brake pedal firms up when the car cuts out. To clarify what happens....

The engine starts spluttering when I am coming into a junction and as I slow down the engine cuts out completely. I can start the car again only but putting my foot on the throttle but the engine will not 'tick over' or idle. The engine will keep running only if I keep the rev's above 1000 rpm's but if it drops below the engine will cut out completely.
