is there anyone who can help me sort out my probs; I have a 92 mk3 astra sri 2.0i on start up until just reaching the blue mark on temprature gauge car runs perfect then from then onwards starts lacking power on excelaration when going down from second to first revs drop down to zero jumps back upto 1500 revs then settles again sometimes cuts out strate away. On reversing cuts out all times, now it is cutting out more when I come to a stand still at juctions and when turning corners at low speed, have changed tickover valve, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, also all associated air pipes which were split thinking I had caured the problem "aaaarh " anybody help ? cheers.
my name is sophie. please read last few entries on discussion board, particularly mine and phil's as you will then see what to do to rectify it. good luck x
Not sure what to do really, I like the idea of the coil pack and the ignition under it, also your solution, but another guy with experience convinced me it was something in the alternator and to change it, others say different. I'm reluctant to do a thing as a friend with a corsa has just changed the alternater in a garage, still no joy, then coil pack, still no joy, and I had a Nissan Micra once that I changed 'everything' electrical on over 6 stressful months and it still did it. Sounds crazy but with limited cash flow I feel better for now wrestling with the occasional cutting out and odd judder. If its any help to others I was told that if it was my coil pack it would not restart immediately as mine always does, as the coil if faulty would need to cool down. But for £500 its a great car and at higher speeds it never faulters......YET !!! So still I wait for it to completely crumble so I can get a proper diagnosis from my friendly AA man. How about if all you lovely people club together and buy me a new car....but not a 1994 Astra please!!! Hello to you all out there and thanks again Locky Jason
I wish that was the cure but I seem to be missing a coil pack there is not one under my coil after reading your review I immediatly when"t and had a look (blast) I thought you had solved it I forgot to mention that I had changed the cat and full exhaust on my car as well so that has eliminated the cat I did read that someone with a mk3 changed the coil pack was his under the coil what size engine was it, and no way would I say it was the alternator bad theory, thanks sophie .
I had the same prob as everyone else cutting out and no power on putting my foot on the gas pedal, fed up I went back to the vauxhall garage to get advice they told me it could be the throttle plate sticking told to clean out or it maybe the iac idle speed vaulve that keeps tickover at right speed cleaned throttle plate made no differance so started looking towards the iac valve
I have an L reg Astra California 1.4i, which I purchased about 2 months ago. Today while driving along all of a sudden at low rev's there seem to be no power. The idle speed seems to be very erratic. It has cut out once or twice, but starts again immediately. When idling it is as if it is misfiring and the revs seem to be really low. this is causing the car to judder and run badly Also there seems to be a funny smell coming from it (this may not be related, but I didn't smell it before hand) The engine management light keeps coming on from time to time........ any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Problems hey astras great cars but when probs happen pain to fix, the prob maybe as sophie said in the discussions earlier the coil pack could of burn"t out it is what tells the engine when to spark it is usualy under or next to the coil, try changing it with one from scrap yard and see if it goes ok then if ok you could think about getting new one you can always write me back and let me know how you get on possible other causes. Bye for now.
Thanks in advance. After this it seems i'll have to go to Vauxhall for a diagnostic, £££ though.
O2 sensor this was picked up at a local garage using a plug in data reader the read out ******s jumped all over the place - new part steady ******. Second part which has made all the difference - coolant temp gauge sender. now running ok (Touch wood) before change the temp gauge barely moved unless on a long trip assume sending faulty info to the ecu which reacts to the info received. We all seam to assume its an ignition fault???? Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free
It comes on when it feels like it which is generally just as I am turning the corner to come home!! It is getting a bit chilly now and would greatly appreciate any help you can give. The car is an Astra 1.6 16v LS Y reg. The temp guage seems to where it should be at all times. Thank you.
Any help greatfully received
thanks
I read what you said to the other 'sufferer'...could you tell me where its located and is it easy to change. I've been living with my cars burps and hickups hoping it would grind to a halt and hence easily locate the culprit. I changed 'everything' once on a micra bit by bit to try and track down a cut out problem and ended up scrapping it, a great car til it cut out, which only happened about once a month..... Might try your suggestion
Thanks for the info. I think i have had the water temp sender changed, because my cooling fan was constantly running even though the temp gauge showed cold so the garage put a new one on. Is that the same one you are talking about? located on the front of the engine block? And where is the o2 sender located please? thanks JDF
O2 sender - look between the front of the engine block and the radiator again a small wire is attached to a sender that resembles a spark plug sized nut remove wire unscrew and replace - Good driving
Its been grumbling less recently though and this was after two high speed 400 mile journeys, thats got to be a clue (any theories anyone ?) Will keep you and everyone posted on my progress, though now its hardly doing it at all I'm very reluctant to touch it...the ol yankee saying....if it aint broke dont fix it !? I'll be travelling from here in the scottish highlands to Cardiff at Xmas..660 miles one way..and that trip usually 'reveals any problems' Last year on boxing day at 6 in the morning and snowing an AA tow truck picked us up in Aberdeen with universal joint banging, and drove us 650 miles to Cardiff, swapping trucks 4 times !...that was my VW Golf episode...the Xmas before that our misfiring mystery on the Nissan Micra ground to a halt at Berwick On Tweed and we did a 'straight swop' (truthfully) with a complete stranger in a small village who's wife wouldnt drive his metro because of the rust !!!! moments later and a handshake we were on our way in the dead of night in amazement !!..That same metro took us back and for twice, until it's final journey to the scrap yard gates for crushing....always a sad day. I would love to tell other amazing stories of our @bangers over the years......anyone interested ? Thanks again Chopper All the best to all of you out there Jason
From Billy Can anyone help? I have a 1993 2.0l diesel estate. If I leave the car for 24 hour or so I have real problems starting it. It will fire at first and then it runs out of fuel and dies out. I then have to turn the engine over many times to start it again. If I run it every day it is fine. Once started I have no problems with it as runs really well. There is obviously a fuel problem but not sure where to start. Any ideas?
