I have a problem with my 1998 Escort 1.8 Gti. The heater and blower etc. work fine but about 30 seconds after turning the air con on, the 25 amp fuse blows and the air con and fan etc. stops. I had the car serviced last November and a new cam belt was fitted, I wasn't that impressed with the work that was carried out and looking back, it seems as though it hasn't worked properly since then, could this have anything to do with it? Could an earth have been left off or something?

I know about the laws etc. regarding the coolant so I will take it to a specialist if I need to but if anyone knows of a few simple checks I could do before I start writing blank cheques, I would be really grateful.

I tried taking a few connectors off and the fuse still kept blowing. While doing this though, I noticed that that there was more to it than I thought...
The fan and air con both work fine when the engine isn't running but when I turn the engine over the fuse blows after about 10 seconds. The blower fan works fine with the engine running or not. I eventually ran out of 25 amp fuses so I put a 30 amp fuse in and it hadn't blown after a minute or so - although I know this isn't good practice and It could cause more damage so I won't use the a/c untill it's sorted.
Don't know this sheds any light on the problem but if you (or anyone else for that matter) think this might point to a specific area, it would be appreciated.
