I have a ford escort mk 5 1/2 1.3 ohv, and since I changed the thermostate, I am having different readings from the temp gauge, it seems to stay just above cold then goes to N on NORMAL, then back down, it cant seem to settle down, Can anyone help me please as this is driving me mad, cant keep my eyes off the gauge, I think it may need bleeding as this only started after I changed the thermostate, how do you bleed the system, thanx in advance, simon,

been a long time since i worked on them but have you put the thermostat the right way round ,as for bleeding it leave it idle, ing with the cap of keep an eye on the level and on your gauge when the temp reaches half way or if the cooling fan kicks in put the cap back on.this should be enough to expell any air in the system.BE CAREFUL IF THE COOLANT STARTS TO BOIL PUT THE CAP BACK ON THEN TURN ON AND LEAVE ALONE TILL COLD.the purpose of the cap is to raise the boiling point above 100,c

thanx for you help done what you told me to do, lots of air in the system could see it when the overflow was pushing water in the expansion tank, seems I must have let in air when I changes the thermostate, When it cools down I will try and see if it has cured my problem, also seems the water pump is making a little noise like a mouse, maybe it will be time to change this in time, thanks again, glad to see people are here to help me.

all the best

simon
