Hi I'm thinking of buying this ped from uk imports (ebay) and was wondering what you all think of it? should i buy one or have you had a few too many problems? I see the cheapest insurance is 150-200 mark and speeds are 30's. is the ped quiet? and does it look cheap and tacky as import must be buying these for £200-300 each if they are selling them on ebay for £550. also with de-restricting, if your insurance finds out will they do anything and what should you do with mot's etc? sorry for so many questions but its first moped and don't want to buy the wrong thing. Thanks Michael

I got 3PTY insurance for just over £100 from Trade Imports recommended insurers.I was under the impression that an MOT would only be needed from the beginning of the 3rd year of registration, like with new cars - although someone correct me if I'm wrong. Your insurers won't know and in all honesty, the difference between restricted/de-restricted isn't massive. What I don't understand is the simple fact that a restricted scoot should not go above 50kph but you can easily exceed that downhill! The don't look cheap and tacky actually, and seem to be the basis for many other branded Chinese scoots. There is good underseat storage - although not enough for my flip front helmet - and two hooks for shopping, as well as a slim storage compartment up front. The ride is good when the surface is broken, the brakes seem up to the job and the engine is relatively quiet - although I can't hear myself when riding. Having now seen the deristriction mod diagram from the Baotian via TI, I'm not entirely convinced that any jet needle changes are necessary, although I can't be bothered to put it back until someone can tell me what the original postion of the clip is. You will also need a tax disc holder BTW - can anyone let me know where they mounted it? On 170km with 1/3 of a tank left, so the economy is good. Checked the oil last Friday and it was 1/2 way between low and high, so it looks like it's worth trying. Running in is a joke - you try and do 20-30kph max on London roads - I just used it as normal, allowing it warm up a little when it's been sitting around for hours, or overnight. Is 10/40 oil for a car the same as 10/40 oil for a scoot/motorbike? It would be helpful if people would post, as opposed to posts asking to post on other forums when this thread still contains some reasonable info. Scoot -_-

thanks scoot, a quality reply there answered all my questions. my main worry was that I didn't want it to be one of those scooters which you can hear coming down the road from the next town away. I'll only be using it to get to and from college which is only 2 miles away or so, so speed isn't really that a important issue as the quickest route is down quiet roads. thanks again scoot Michael

With reference to tax disc mounting. I found the ideal place is to remove the bolt at the front of the exhaust box (where it bolts onto the frame) and mount it there, and yes 10/40 motor oil is ok for both cars or scooters.Chris W
