Cheers for the advice re insurance for the 125, ive already tried MCE and they quoted in excess on £300 ive no 'no claims' and only just started riding bikes but have been driving for 27 years . Ive gone with the "insurance line" but this is costing £270 third party only i tried Bennetts as well but they could not find the scoot on their systembluemalc.

Great idea to make a website. Im for the idea- hope it kicks off soon!!! And replies to my q's on page 9 would be greatly appreciated. Good luck with the site- cant wait!!!! Could you let me know when its done?

in reply to the scoot insurance! You could have insured the scoot over the phone with them. I have the Baotian 50cc but it has a different name( Hyosung zhongyu zy50qt-7) and couldnt find it on their website either. But over the phone its ok.

I was insured by MCE - as recommended by TI on ebay. I'm paying £106 3rd party only (driving for 15 years/1st two wheeler) - there is no point in going for fire/theft as they are asking for a £350 excess which is OTT if you factor in the premium increase and the £600ish for the scooter. I just got a good lickKev - what performance increases have you seen? What you are saying sounds like what mods pople have made on their Euro scoots..... Linda - can you quantify the increase that moving the circlip on the jet needle has made? Mine is the standard position with the brass screw removed and it seems ok - except up very steep hills... Scoot :P

yes the performance increase is meant to be up to 60 mph with much better acceleration but always depending on the scoot. These have all been done on the same scoot throughout europe, they just have different names. It all depends on the one u got from the company, it might already be fast and be really fast once its de-restricted, or u might get a bad one which might not handle the de-restriction well. But in most cases nicely succeeded!!! Still dont know about this brass screw yet as there are a few on the carb. what side is it on? What is it near? There haven't been very good explanations for this!! A detailed walthrough would be greatly appreciated!! TY

In reply to Stephen's fuel gauge problem my sons scoot has same problem. However its appears to be just the way the gauge is calibrated - my sons gauge stays on full for ages (100 miles or more) then drops VERY rapidly towards empty. The way we played it first time round was to keep checking the tank by opening the fuel cap - most times you could easily see there was plenty of fuel left - a real ball ache first time round but I didnt want him to be stranded with an empty tank....! Now we know its time to re-fuel as soon as the gauge begins to drop........hope this helps. Phil

Re fuel gauge. most bike gauges are bad at showing what is actually in the tank just have to keep an eye on the Kms and fill up about every 130kms, (so im reliably informed by a mate of mine thats been a bike rider for years) ive done just 130 kms from full and the needle has just gone into the red, but it still sounds like thers loads in the tank cheers

when i purchased my baotian, the needle was deep in red. when i filled up that first time, it took in about 4.5L (although the manual states it has a 6.5L tank). the last time i filled up, the needle was just about to hit red but the tank could only take 3.5L.given this, i believe that the fuel gauge is quite misleading. i would calculate that if you had to hit red, with no fuel station readily available, you should still have a good 2.5L to run on. since 3.5L allows for +/- 100Km, the remaining 2.5L could give an extra 70Km odd. i do not suggest that you run your engine dry, but this should give you some peace of mind in tight situations!

If you brim the tank - you will get 200kms until the bottom of the red and there is still (presumably) about 2l left in there - I fill up every 200km. As others have said, the manual states the tank can take 6.5l but the guage seems to be calibrated for 4.5l and less......Scoot -_-

Hi Guysits been great seeing all these articles as its been very useful help. i have two issues to discuss and hope to get some help 1) the manual says that the scooter takes 0.8 Ltrs of engin oil, when i changed my oil and added 0.8 ltrs of oil, i relised that it was over filled ,,,, i had to drain some ,,,i think it takes about 0.5ltrs ....anyone had the same experience bfr 2) speed, i moved the brass screw , its a bit faster but i am still struggling at 35mph ,,, any other derestrictions,,,,,not complicated one please :-) thanks shaggi

The same thing happened to me - I couldn't understand it as I thought I *had* drained all of it before the refill. I've left the oil level as it is. If you look at the manual, the dipstick they show is different to the one on the scoot.Could 0.5 be misprinted as 0.8 on the bike stickers, manual and the website......so confusion reigns?? I imagine the engine is a pretty standard design..... I'll check the spark plug at 1000km - if its oiled up then it must be overfilled I suppose. Does anyone occasionally get a little lag when opening the throttle - not in terms of engine rev response but transmission take up? Scoot -_-

I have set up a forum for us called the "Baotian Owners Forum" The current address is http://www.baotian.tk . If anyone wishes to purchase a better domain name please do but it is not essential. I would most like it if you would join up to the forum but this is not nessasary to post messages. Thanks Daniel

THIS IS REPLY FROM BAOTIAN MANUFACTURER , I ASKED THEM ABOUT OIL CHANGE issues AND SPEED ISSUES.. SEE BELOW...still cant understand what they mean by speed limiter as explained below,,,please help Below is the solution to your problem.Hope it would be helpful to you. 1,if you fill the new engine with oil, you can add 0.8 litres of engine oil, however, when you change the engine oil, it's almost impossible for you to drain out all the former oil,so you could only add 0.5-0.7 litres of engine oil. 2,our scooters take 2 ways to limit the speed. First, add a screw to the carbulator. You can just open the top cover of the carbulator and take away the screw, then the speed limit would be canceled. Second is the electronic speed limit, you can adjust a small screw on the CDI to change the speed, or pull out the wire between the engine's rear case and CDI to cancel the speed limit
