Hi Linda thanks for that. Is your machine the BT version as stated on your registration document from the DVLA? If so I think there maybe a problem with the cover as a few companies I have contacted identified it as an import they would not insure.
Am in talks with ins co and motorcycle news. Will keep you [Log in to view email]

Your message states good deal with lexham insurancce - did you get £169 for your 16 yr old daughter ? - I am asking because my son has bought the same bike & is 16 yrs old & has had quotes ranging from £320 to nearly £600 !!!!!!

Any advice from anyone for a cheap (sub-£200) TPO quote on the Baotian scooter? I need Insurance Broker/Company names - I tried quoteline direct from this forum who quoted £525 (not £110 as someone stated in this forum).

What I cannot understand is that TPO does not cover the scooter itself - only damage caused by it so why should it cost more than say, a Piaggio Zip? (Quote was £179 for the Zip).

Thanks all

HI, Yes insurance was £169 fo my daughter. I also had quotes for £300- 600. Lexham didn't want to give me a quote but 5 of my daughters friends had used them so i think they felt sorry for me.Telephone number is 0845 600 1664. Good Luck.

Linda - YOU ARE AN ANGEL

I rang Lexham - they had already changed the details of the scooter from BT50 QT-9 to FD50 QT-9 & NIG Insurance allowed them to do this so that they could quote £175.20 !!!!!

I'm curious - Is yours insured by NIG Insurance & does your insurance schedule show BT59 or FD50 on it?

Thanks again for being so helpful - £175 is very reasonable for a 16 yr old with no driving experience!!!!

Best wishes

Phil

Hi, I am the chap who paid £115 third party fire and theft, this was through quoteline but the policy is with Wilsons ins brokers on 08702 200344 underwritten by Novitas But then I am 48 yrs and have had a full car licence for 30yrs However, I think a lot of the problems with the motorcycle is that they don't recognise the model BT50QT-9 it does not seem to be on their database and my policy states a diffrent model number I have alerted them to this but they have not responded. Also I think as the machines are or can be imported and assembled by joe bloggs may be a factor.

Thanks for feedback - we are accepting quote on the same basis although I clearly stated the bike is a BT - not an FD - does not seem to matter to lexham.

In reply to your query about de-restriction there seems to be a lot of advice in this very forum!!! It seems to be a simple matter of removing a small screw from the carburettor if we can believe whats been said.

My brother is a mechanic so will let you know after he has had a look...........

Linda,

Just picked up my Son's bike this morning - seems like a good one - i tried it today & it went straight to 45mph (already appears to be re-restricted althought the retailer said it wasn't).
My Son is ecstatic about his new-found independence...

My brother said it seems to be simply a screw to be removed from the carburettor - any mechanic friend should be able to do this.

Docentation is very sketchy though - any one know what the precise type of:

A) engine oil &

B) Gear oil

which should be used ?

Many thanks

Re- your message to linda - I've just bought one for my 16 yr old son & they seem to be a bargain for the money £600 for a new scooter? 4 stroke - it seems to have honda mechanicals - its quiet - not like the buzzy two-strokes now being outlawed & no expensive two-stroke oil to keep an eye on.

running in is 200 km according to the docs with the scooter.

My initial thoughts are good - but time will tell as regards reliability

- Linda how is your one - any problems with the scooter yet?
