About the fuel gauge that quite some people have problems.
1) The gauge is not very accurate. It stays almot still quite high for about 50 km and then it drops very rapidly. But when it reaches the red area, it has about 2.5 L in the tank, which means that after 150 km (this is when it reaches the red area) there is almost 1/3 of the fuel still inside the tank. So, I suggest that you should re-fuel without much anxiety when the gauge reaches the red area and generally, the mileage is about 200 km.
2) I faced problems with the gauge indicating always empty or full. In both cases the problem is the same. The plastic moving part that flows inside the tank on the fuel surface and indicates the fuel level gets stuck on the walls of the tank because it's not properly fit. So, the solution is to take out the seat and reach the fuel tank. At the top of the tank you can see a black wire coming out, this is the fuel gauge wire. Right under that is the fuel gauge part that needs to get refitted right. I strongly suggest that you do this with the tank half full, because otherwise you may think the indication (empty or full) is right.
Hope this helps. Also, I 've noticed that a member said that apart from the brass screw there is an addtional electronic restrictor that is connected to the CDI. I would appreciate more info on how to do this.
I have also posted the solution to the fuel gauge to the forum http://www.baotian.tk I think it's best to contribute to that forum because it has categorized topics and not a flat structure like the preloved. Anyway, it's your choice.

Hi everyone
I removed the brass pin inside the top cap of the carb and it has improved the speed, i reached a little under 40mph, and pulls of a little better, but scince removing pin have had trouble with it stalling and have come to the conclusion that it may be flooding the engine. can anyone share any light on this please and if possible email me the manual as the link for the manual isnt working [Log in to view email]
many thanks

Hi linda
your fuel line has an automatic tap, when engine is running, there is a second pipe which causes suction which allows the tap to open , I too are having stalling problems and i am thinking it is flooding (only happened scince i removed the pin in top of the carb), ill let you know if i come up with anything.

I have a Baotian bought July 2004. It is working more or less fine. However the electric start does not work anymore. I can kick-start it however. Sometimes a weak buzzing sound comes from the start motor but most of the time it is completely dead when I press the start button. Does anybody know a solution, or experienced this problem? Is it easy to take out the start motor? Best Regards Lars P

i think you will find that if you fully charge the battery then the starter should work..........i had the same problem and read somewhere that the battery voltage needed to be above 11volts....... Does anyone know how to de-restrict the scooter?

thanks but it seems to be a part that is under the seat a round silver part that the fuel part is attached to - this seems to be smalled and therefore fuel not getting through - does anyone know what this part is called as the bloke i bought it off doesn't know what i am talking about - it looks like a flying saucer and has a bit coming off it that the fuel pipe attaches to - this bit has snapped, its only about 2 inches and situated under the seat near the fuel tank.

About the fuel supply, I believe that the problem is the fuel switch. It is a valve that lets fuel flow only when under pressure. So, this switch lets fuel pass through only when you move the throttle. This fuel switch is situated on the right of the scooter under the seat and the fuel tank. You will have to remove the right-side plastic in order to change it. My technician told me that this switch is often faulty and lets fuel pass through continously, thus choking the engine. So if anyone has stalling problems and assumes it is due to fuel supply, I suggest checking that switch. I myself faced stalling problems which were caused by too tight setting of the two valves of the engine. Bu that is something that should be done by an experienced technician if you don't know what you are doing.

The reason asking is i have sorted my stalling problem out, when i removed the brass pin, on the spring is a white clip and and when the needle lifts inside the carb (to allow more fuel through), the white clip kept getting stuck to the top of the cap, scince removing the white clip i havent had any stalling problems, that was about 2 hours ago so fingers crossed.
